Navigation view changed. Used to be like navigating a car but now the map only points in one direction making it harder to follow the trail at a glance. There is no way to save search parameters. I use the same search for most of my trail hunting because I hike with my dog. But every time I go back out to the main screen and want to search I have to enter in all the criteria all over again. It's a pain. The app no longer provides a nice description of each trail. Have to rely on reviews.

For the most part, the app is pretty good. Being new to trail hiking and kayaking it has helped me locate places to try. But not all the features are working. The conditions section of a trail listing only shows the weather. Before paying for the full app it showed other things in addition to the weather. Now it just says "Let's try that again" and has a retry button. But when you press the retry button nothing new loads. If I pay for a app I expect all the features to work.

Good app for finding places to hike, but I'm rating it 3 stars because they recently made it difficult to look at user-submitted photos. I don't want to look at a zoomed in slide show of photos. I can't think of anyone who would prefer this feature over being able to see the entire photo and scroll through on their own. Also, the trail details are visible elsewhere and don't need to be displayed over photos, obscuring more of the trail. How are you supposed to judge if you'll like the views?

First time I used this app and it's absolutely garbage. I downloaded a bunch of hikes that are in rural areas, because the cell service is not that great. At one point, the stupid "arrow" was actually spinning.I used Google maps and it worked far better than the Alltrail app. It had us actually going in circles. Why have a "download" feature if it doesn't function. Do you need data? I am cancelling my subscription ASAP. Total garbage for me. If they have a 0 star option, it would have been.

Reduced to three stars after the recent redesign. I hate the new way the photos are organized. Why can't I just see the whole folder of photos and scroll through them on my own!? The timeline-style photo reel is incredibly gimmicky and annoying to either 1) wait endlessly for, or 2) scroll awkwardly through. The AI-sorted folders by subject are awful too. "Mountain" and "Lake," seriously!? The whole trail is about a mountain and lake, why force me to look in multiple places?

So apparently they are doing away with the USGS map layer for good. It isn't available anymore if you search, and on downloaded maps it says "legacy" and a note pops up that says it's going away soon. That layer is extremely useful for finding things like glades (or where they used to be), ruins, seeing property lines for national forests, discovering what mountains and creeks are named, and seeing more topo detail than what is offered in the other map layers they have. Time to switch apps.

My reviews don't show up. The new AI feature is COMPLETELY wrong and a big waste of space. Example: "100% snow cover" when there hasn't been a patch of snow on the ground for weeks... And the ongoing battery drain issue, so I don't use the app to record my hikes because it's a safety issue when it kills my phone.

Really not enjoying the most recent update. First, i just want to look through the pictures, I don't want to have to pick a certain group of pics to look at. I just want to look at them all.. Second, I have been known to quit using apps or websites all together when I'm looking through a list of things, such as a list of trails, in this case and if I click on one to open it up and look in more detail, when i try to go back to the list I was viewing, it seends me to the top of the list!

it'd be pretty cool if it showed the user's location in the form of a blip or indicator or something on the incline graph (located on the "overview" pull up menu when you're actively on a trail). but yeah no complaints. I'm probably not using this app nearly as much as I should to justify paying as much as I did and having it take as much space as it does on my phone, but hey, what's done is done.

The latest update is great. Meant good features are a bit hidden but when you find them, they help a lot. Like seeing photos by previous months and latest. The weather and wetness conditions are also great indicators though I wish it showed it for next 48hrs and not just today. When planning a trip for next morning, I should be able to see the weather for tomorrow. I also miss the simple way to see the elevation gain over the length of the hike. Good work team Alltrails!

Don't waste your money on this. The app is clearly designed by and for people who rarely go outside and don't go very far. If you're looking for an a short couple mile walk/hike then maybe this is for you. Every long trail on here is incomplete or missing to many sections to be useful. I download this app every couple years to if it's improved and can say with confidence no investment or improvement has been done since it's release.

$$ version sucks. Have to predownload the routes? Just let download the state or a specific area so I don't have to plan all my hikes out before loosing cell service. Also it doesn't show the trails till you zoom in a decent amount making it hard to get a good birds eye view. I found the cotrex app to be easier to use. About the only thing going for all trails is the fact you can search by popularity to find a decent trail nearby. Feels like a waste of money when the free apps compete.

Needs an option to manually download/ create a local backup of activity data for when glitches occur with sync. The new photo viewing system is awful. Who wants to waste time manually scrolling through full sized photos? And the slow motion zoom in - why?? Bring back the thumbnail view that has the option of sorting chronologically (which is still available on the website).

Alltrails does not allow me to cancel the subscription from my phone, which is the only place I use the app from. It says to check Google play for a subscription which I did, and nothing, or to go to a desktop or laptop. This is needlessly complicated to cancel and an intentional roadblock to keep more subscribers. I don't have a laptop or desktop with me where I am. Ive now got to put it on my to-do list to find a laptop and make sure it bubbles up to the top before the subscription renews.

This review is specific to the android app. I love AllTrails as a site. Great maps, user base, trails, etc. The mobile app continues to drop my activities so they never sync with the server. Support told me this was related to my turning off mobile data. So I now check to make sure data is on before each outing. But still my most recent hike was still dropped. Seems like a simple problem to store activity data on the device and sync to the server when connectivity allows.

Trail paths are the very accurate. App claims about alerting when user goes off-route, that didn't happen when I used it in two different trails. And most annoying, which I have seen in other reviews as well, app will not record the activity. It was showing me all the stats from start to finish but it's nowhere to be seen now. At this point I am questioning my decision to pay for subscription.

I've had alltrails for years now (paid too) and I don't understand what happened with this latest update. I can no longer get directions or navigate a trail unless I'm connected to the internet, even though I've downloaded the map beforehand. That's not possible in the wilderness. I also hate the fact that you can no longer view your saved lists in map view. I now have to go one by one in my list to see which one is close. Another negative, when going back to the list it starts at the top again

Overall a nice featureset, but unreliable. I was recording two hikes in one day that were a part of a trail challenge in my area. Both maps were downloaded before heading to the trial head. After both routes were completed, and I'd named each activity, uploaded photos, and added details, the app glitched on one of the activities and combined the info from one activity into the other. Now I'm left with duplicate hikes in the app, and one of them doesn't have any map or distance data.

I've been using this app for over 10 years and the older versions were so simple and basic. Now it's cluttered with so much tracking, recording, and other pointless nonsense. Take for example when using the map and searching for trails, there are filters on top of page and large search bar taking up half the map. Why? There's already and option for filters. Also, navigating downloaded map gets annoying when the record button pops up and I don't want to record. Please bring back basic version.

As many noted, recent updates aren't improvements. Previously, the preview trail feature was a slider I could move back and forth to see exactly where elevation changes in the trail occurred. It was fast and efficient, allowing me to preview the trail in a second. Now I have to watch an automated recording showing me the preview and then rely on my memory to know where the changes occurred. I can't go back and quickly look or compare one part of the trail to another. Incredibly frustrating.
