Opening the app from a notification freezes the app without loading the story or letting me navigate to a different page. Trying to open AP Fact Check from the widget brings up a blank page. I dont know how long the first has been going on, but the second problem has existed since I downloaded the app a year ago. It's ridiculuous that this stuff hasn't been fixed. Also, what's the point of customizing my topics list if I can't remove "default" topics, 75% of which I'm not interested in?

The new update has resulted in me receiving duplicate notifications of the same article, one stacked right on top of the other. Not a deal breaker (although I did turn off notifications) because I like AP overall. Now, though, I will need to remember to open the app for my news feed. Can't guarantee that will happen.

5/17/24. I dropped a star off of it because they made a change that is very confusing. One of those "don't fix what's not broken" changes. I still trust AP, but I may need to find a different view off the app. The app is functioning better. Thank you. This takes to important news and the not so important. It depends on the reader.

Used to be a 5-star app, but as of today, 05.17.2024, version 6.0.3 has removed the "Radio" feature, which may have been one of the most useful features of the entire app. Looping, relatively few ads, updated regularly, awesome. Now, missing. Do better, AP. And maybe let users know: "AP News Radio has been removed from the app." Not difficult.

UPDATE: I'm hoping that this 6.0.4 revision has fixed the notification problems of getting double notifications and not having the notification go to the correct story. So far it has! My earlier review was: Ever since the 6.0 upgrade, the push notifications open to a blank page instead the news story. It's really annoying. I deleted and reinstalled the app but it makes no difference. It used to work perfectly. Now I hardly check the news on AP because of this annoying problem.

The latest update as of June 13th has completely ruined this app. The Associated Press is known for its impartial reporting and the ability to present news without spin. So It is a great shame that the app now is visually distracting, too many photos and videos in the initial feed, much harder to find the news you want to find. By increasing the size of the initial articles in the opening feed one cannot get an overview of all the news quickly. Please revert back ASAP.

The new update makes content into a "newsfeed" facebook type display, and makes apps like spotify stop playing. I do NOT like the new visual update as I don't want a single news story taking up the majority of my screen and I really don't like scroll-style presentation of news. The UI is now much less enjoyable and I will likely use this app much less now.

Finally just uninstalled the app. Both the recent update and their website and covered in ads that are physically in the way. It's sad because for years I have referred to AP for news that covered all sides of an issue. No more picking subjects you can follow (without being redirected to the hideous website from the app). No more date stamp to indicate I may have read a story the previous day. I'll just have to find other sources.

I generally like the app but notifications are getting cut off after the new update. Having to open every article to see what it's about makes me want to use this less. UPDATE 5/15/2024: The issue has been fixed! I'm getting double notifications every once in a while now but at least I can read the whole thing. It's great to see that the developer listens to feedback 👍

[Ver 6.0.4]AP News has been my go to app for many years, but this forced update brought unnecessary issues. (1) When I click on the app icon to open the app, I get this message: 'Sorry! There was an error, please retry'. I have to wait on a notification to come up, click on it, then the app will open. Huh! 🤔😒 (2) All my bookmarked stories have disappeared! These were always retained in previous updates. 😕 Please fix ASAP! Also, stop forcing people to update their apps to bug ridden versions😩

they have a new look, which is nice. however, if you're listening to anything on your phone and pulling up this app, it cuts the audio. the associated press app doesn't play anything, but it does stop all other audio for some reason. I didn't open a support ticket because they have had audio issues before. it's getting better, but still...

UPDATE for June 10 release: The new look is space wasting and terrible. I used to be able to see a list of several headlines on my screen, and now I see one giant headline image eith a tiny title. Takes forever to scroll through the top stories now. Bring back the compact design or I'll move on. Also, the privacy settings page now has to toggles or actual setting in them, so you are forced to accept being tracked and targeted as you can't select to turn it off! Unacceptable.

AP used to be great. Would still be a good news app, but ads are now the main feature. Ads suddenly take over the screen just as I start reading a news article, so I have to move on and start over. Some flicker and flash. I've had enough of the distractive disruptions, some of which now feature too much flesh. Not interested. I've removed AP from my home screen; hoping it may soon be worth another try and more stars.

Most blatant issue: selecting categories to exclude was ineffective. I have NO interest in sports, yet removing it from the category list didn't accomplish anything even after killing the app, wiping cache, & restarting. Also there's no way to jump straight to sections I want to see, have to scroll through all the other ones prior first. All that scrolling gave very little I wanted to read, but that may just be due to a slow news day. AP does great reporting, but their app needs work.

The mew UI takes some getting used to but I'm almost there. Tech support in the past has been non-existent (absolutely NO response from multiple contact attempts like feedback or e-mail, EVER!). Logging in/password changes were hopeless. Hopefully those issues have changed for the better. So far article response has improved. More stars as a result... Android 10, Samsung Galaxy A20.

I have been using this for years, through ups and downs. It generally works and the news itself is fine. As of June 2024 they made MAJOR changes, all for the worse. You can no longer reduce graphics in the article lists. No login so every device must be individually set up. No timestamp in the list of articles. US News no longer available.

Unfortunately this app seems to have some kind of network problem when you exit out of it with a article open. When you reopen you receive a error message saying "No network connection". This happens even if the phone is connected to WiFi/ has cellular service. The only way to fix it is to close the app completely and then reopen it. For I give just the app itself a 2 start review. AP however is one of my favorite news sources it's just a shame the dosen't work correctly at this time.

Having an issue with notifications on Android (Google pixel). I get a notification and instead of it just being in the pull down menu like it always has been, it's also displaying the headline over whatever other app I'm currently using. This isn't an app that has "display over other apps" permission so I can't shut that off to make it go away. Intrusive and annoying, I'm going to uninstall if it isn't fixed or given an option to disable.

AP has always been a reliable source for neutral news, which is why I originally installed the app. However, not all users have endless time to waste staring at a phone scrolling video after video. Removing the radio feature, where I could leave it on and get caught up on the day's news while on the move or in the background, caused me to uninstall the app and find another source.

It was a 5, now it's more of a 2+ The update changed the format, making the headlines larger resulting in having to scroll a really long time to find what I want to read. Often the link doesn't fully load and the video/ pictures are not available. Frustrating..... Also getting duplicate "Breaking News" notifications, sometimes the next day. Is it really Breaking News if it's the same info 24 hours later? Not sure why you had to change a really good thing to something that's irritating to use.
