More About Direct Express® Mobile

With the new mobile application for your Direct Express® Debit MasterCard® card, you can manage your money conveniently and securely from your mobile device. The mobile application is free to download for the cardholders whose card number starts with 533248. You need to register again with your card details prior to logging in the first time.
Please Note: If your card begins with 511563 DO NOT download this app. Please look in the app store for the yellow Direct Express® logo with a description stating that the app is for cards which start with the numbers 511563.

When you sign up to receive your federal benefits on the Direct Express® card, you will receive your payment every month without having to worry about cashing your check or having it lost or stolen. Instead of receiving a check, your money will be automatically deposited to your Direct Express® card account on payment day. You can use your card to make purchases at stores that accept Debit MasterCard®, withdraw cash from Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), and get cash back when you make purchases. You can also use your debit card online to make payments and to also buy money orders at the U.S. Post Office.

CS told me there is an issue with this app on Android. There is no timeframe for when the app might get fixed, though they are working on it. The older version also most likely will not work if you have already registered with the new app. Anyone needing to call CS should call after 9pm, since the call volume is much lower. My app worked fine until around 11:30pm last night. I had no issues registering or anything, but I was forced into doing so before the end of last year.

The only problem I've had with direct Express is that they allowed some fraudulent purchases to my account, which caused me to have to cancel my card each time and get a new one. I feel this could have been avoided if they would just implement a confirmation of purchase for each purchase transaction, that way I wouldn't have to cancel my card and not be able to make any purchases or make any payments while I wait for a new one, while Direct Express conducts their investigation.

I used to have an account and login information with Direct Express. It turns out that Direct Express deleted my old account. What that meant was that I had to register for a new account. I basically had to start all over. I initially hated Direct Express because MasterCard sucks. Now I hate Direct Express because their app sucks. The SSA should change to a different banking company, and they should switch to using Visa cards. Visa is a better company in my opinion.

The Direct Express Card is the mode by which the government has chosen to send me my social security disability payment. For the record, I am blind. The old app was absolutely perfect. Easy to use, and very informative. This app however is not blind friendly in any capacity. It requires multiple levels of security and passwords just to access it. Way more limited! This app doesn't do most of what the previous app did. I was hoping the "new upgraded" app would have the option to transfer funds so that I could stop calling in every month, but not only does it not have that, it has fewer actions than the previous app, which means I'd have to call in MORE often. No thank you. Uninstall. Stick with the 1st app. Get your stuff together, Commerica. It's only an "upgrade" if it's BETTER than the 1st. This is a DOWNgrade.

very very unhappy with the "new card and new app". First my new card was not delivered and I had to order one. Then, I downloaded this horrible app. The old app sent immediate notifications on every deposit and every swipe of my card with the current balance. It was up to the minute accurate. Now there are NO NOTIFICATIONS via text, and the app itself doesn't show accurate data. It takes days sometimes for a transaction to show up. This app is basically useless. A GreenDot card would be better.

App never recognizes a password, or allows for the full password if it's too long. Can't reliably get a hold of their "24/7" customer service. Can't access the app at all because it won't acknowledge the brand new password I set on a 10yr old account. This new app is terrible and there's no need for 2 separate apps for the same company. Everyone should have the same access to their account.

I installed new app today. I was expecting a terrible time. After installing, all I had to do was re-register. Its been fairly easy to use, shows all my transactions, balance, etc. I have A HINT that may be helpful...if you do get into the acct, click on the profile button (little person) in the upper left corner. From there you can enable either 'fingerprint' (if your phone has it) OR 'passcode' (a 6 digit number of your choosing) so it's MUCH EASIER on subsequent logins! Hope this helps:)

I haven't been able to open the app since I've installed it. Every once in a while I could get the old app to open, now I get told "for a better banking experience use new app" My money disappeared last month. This month, I'm afraid to even use the card except to pay a bill, even that's iffy! Never know if you are going to get declined. When you are finally able to speak to a live person, I'm told no transportation came thru! This is a nightmare!

I agree with all the people!! This is a very poor updated app. I can't even see the app on my screen like I normally could. I used to like to see all the transaction well you only have a choice of seeing certain stuff to a certain time frame. Why don't you leave the app alone. It was better 2 updates ago..... Can you please make this app better otherwise it totally sucks for all of us. Thank you. Direct Express user

4 years prior to this one never had a problem or issue. This time around not happy about not being able to view transactions on a monthly statement form for 1, then acouple of months ago all of a sudden when I click on icon all it does it is has that thing spinning around and around and around. The app never opens up, just sits there and spinning. On both my phone and my tablet.

I started using US Direct Express around 5 years ago. I logged into account and could review transactions from each month, up to a year prior. Now, it only allows me to look back 90 days. Also, it's never showed a monthly balance, only a balance when you log in, so I would take a screenshot of the balance and refer to that. It would be improved if it had a monthly balance to refer to for a specific date, just like credit unions or bank statements. Please fix these issues. I don't like the new ap

I was informed to upgrade to the new App, but after several attempts to re-register this new version refuses to allow or take my info. I've been with them for 7yrs now. FRUSTRATED!!😠 When you try to contact customer to resolve the issue. There's a long wait and when someone finally answered they put you on hold to send you to the Tech Dept., which then hang-up on you. What the HELL is going on over there @ Direct Express. I'm seriously tempted to switch to something else!!

New update...HORRIBLE! Why do you guys keep meddling with this app? Last year it was a mess. This current update isn't showing me anything on my account. My name, login, account info or balance. It stays on the open Direct Express main page. It doesn't open to the main account If I could give it zero stars I would. With EVERY change it's ALWAYS a issue with this app without fail. If it isn't broke STOP messing with it. It's frustrating and annoying. Next year there will be a new issue. 🙄

***edit*** can't even log in anymore 🤬 **edit** it USED to be easy to use and understand and super helpful but they've made changes and now it's confusing & unclear. It doesn't show charges or withdrawals immediately anymore and everything is "pending" for days. I absolutely hate whatever they've done, I wish they would change it back. ***end edit*** Easy to use and understand. Extremely helpful for tracking payments.

I hate the new app! I can only get a month of transactions, and It takes forever to load. Beware, if someone gets your account information, and can get into your account again, even after closing the account. Direct express, will deem the first one suspicious, and take the money back that was stolen the first time. Without investigating the fraudulent transactions. It happened to me, two months in a row. When, I investigated the transactions, they were all false sites. No investigation!

Overall, this is a surprisingly solid banking application, especially for the US government. Lol? However, I'm not sure why this is, but when you're on the Account Details OR main page after signing in, transaction amounts (and some words) almost always have the last decimal/few letters cut off. It actually happens all throughout the UI. It wasn't doing this before. Fix it please. As I said at the beginning, overall very nice work, devs. Keep it up!

Started off pretty good till the last recent month it stopped showing recent deposit amount before it comes and even after the payment comes it's says at top no recent deposit. I didn't even know my money was pending till I looked in transactions because it doesn't show pending amount neither at top like it use to . But it's pretty good overall. just don't like that error.

The app is very helpful. it helps me keep track of money and helps me remember certain bills. having a brain injury 🤕 it is hard to remember things. the app is easy to use and to navigate through and I can go back and view past purchases and see who is taking money out. I had companies taking 5.00 3.00 there helped me end that madness..very helpful thank you.

Frustrating. I don't get alerts AT ALL I'll set them but every time I open the app, they're gone. When I ask for paper statements I don't get an entire month's worth of transactions, if i even get it but I'm paying for it. Transactions will show up as if u purchased it the day after you did too. Edit: still don't get alerts, none!! I can't see deposits for any month before the current month& i cant see transactions before the month prior to the current month. Don't I have a right to a statment?
