I don't typically write reviews for apps, but I had to make an exception here. Ground News is AWESOME. This is absolutely essential journalistic work, especially in today's news landscape. It's important to challenge your biases and break your bubble - Ground News makes that easier. It's reasonably priced, easy to use, and highly customizable. Cannot recommend enough.

I love getting a balance of news so I can see what all sides are saying while knowing the non-bias is giving the facts. However, the app has gotten frustrating to use. I used to be able to choose whether I saw stories based on timeline or bias. I loved being able to easily see where a story originated. Sometimes, it showed it started from Russia, and was deliberate misinformation. Now, it seems to randomly pick which story shows first, it's hard to navigate, and I've lost all control. Sad!

I like it a lot. I love that it gives you quick summaries of stories, it shows you multiple articles on a story from a range of sources, and you can see "blind spot" stories you might not hear about otherwise. I think the free plan is enough for most people, and the pro plan is very reasonably priced. The only things I dislike are how tapping a summary weirdly brings you to an article, and the back arrow doesn't always bring you to the article you were previously on.

Does not work well with dark mode. It used to, but one of the more recent updates must have broken it. I used to pay for premium, but don't anymore. I think, other than a few minor annoyances removed, premium doesn't get you much. You still have pay walls from individual sources blocking access. The most useful thing is that you can see who has covered the topic, and then it's often better to open the source of your choice in your browser, because reading in the app can have issues.

In general a good idea and decent execution too. I do have a few gripes with it: The app regularly bugs be to enable notifications. No thanks should mean "don't bug me ever again". It's very difficult to get relevant news. Telling the app to show less of certain news doesn't seem to make any difference. The "focus" tab is practically just Ukraine news and nothing else. Local news - isn't. Some is local, much isn't local at all.

I have set my notification preferences three times and the app is still trying to have me turn on notifications. If I can change it anytime in the settings, then stop nagging me. If I want notifications, I'll enable them. I don't. As for everything else, most things appear to be locked behind a paywall and the "news" is just snippet text. At that point, just show the headline only if we have to click through anyway.

I used to use Google news but always felt like they were feeding me with stories of a certain political bend without my consent. This app removes that type of manipulation and helps me see the full picture. No more "silo-ing". UI is pretty good. Only recommendation is desire for option to reflow text to remove adds. I know news sites need the ads displayed, which should be the default, but there could be a second step button to reflow after scrolling through the adds.

Close to great, but not perfect. It needs to be easier to view the source profiles, i struggle every time because i have to be on a specific page to be able to look at say CNN or someone's profile. If we are going to have an embedded browser, PLEASE open links in simple mode or something. Mobile news sites are already horrific to navigate with ads. Embedding that into the app means even less screen real estate is available, and add on intrusive ads, and only 10% of the screen is useable

It's a great service. The app could use a little improvement. My main issue is when reading articles in the built-in browser, there's no way to properly go back if I click a link in the article. The links work and will go to the right page, but using the back button/gesture exits the article back to the story summary, making me have to find the article again and reload it (the browser is a bit slow at loading). A little tedious in those cases. But overall good app and insightful service!

Seems pretty cool so far; it does what the YouTube pitchers promise. But I don't like how it uses, as many apps do these days, an embedded browser instead of the one I set as default in my device's settings. Yes, you can click an icon in the upper right of an article and it will then send you to your preferred browser, but this requires you to first load the article in the embedded browser. I'd like the ability to have all links skip the embedded browser and jump straight to my preference.

An awesome media source and resource! I like all the features, as the app is very easy and clear to navigate. I know the folks at Ground News work very hard to provide such content and seem to go 'The extra mile!' Since becoming a subscriber, I recommend this App to everyone that I know. It is well worth a try, even if you already have a favorite app for news. Two thumbs up!

This is the best news app I have ever used! 👍🏽 It is an incredible resource and helps you be a better consumer of news media. It gives you breaking stories, without all the murders. Then gives you the available articles on the topic, and if the outlets leans left, right or center. It also gives you articles within your blind spot based on what you read most often, so you aren't just reinforcing your already conditioned worldviews. Wonderful app, thank you!

I had Ground News for a couple weeks and bought their premium subscription. I really appreciated the app for what it did and thought it did a very good job at separating the facts from the politics. They have tons of options for being the stories and different feeds so that you can see stories you wouldn't normally get to see. I ultimately cancelled because the political landscape right now is overwhelming, but I'll come back when I'm ready. The cancellation process was easy and understanding

Great app! The current media landscape makes it so difficult to know if what your reading or watching is coming from one side or the other. Even if you've got your own strong opinions, it's important to know what the "other side" is saying. This app puts it all in one place. And the "Blindspot" feature shows you when one side is covering a story while the other is completely ignoring it. One more note: The customer service from the developers is great!

10/10 would recommend this app, not only is the app itself great but the developers are equally if not more amazing. You can honestly tell that they are committed to making this app the best it can be. this is honestly one of the few reasons I can trust what news I read. it allows you to easily differ between different news outlets for a complete picture in almost no extra time

Ground News is an exceptional app for staying informed with a comprehensive view of current events. Its unique feature of showing how different media outlets report on the same story is invaluable for understanding biases and getting a well-rounded perspective. The interface is user-friendly, making it easy to navigate through various news sources. Real-time updates ensure you never miss important developments. Highly recommend Ground News for anyone seeking balanced and reliable news coverage!

This application presents news in a disorganized manner and provides irrelevant content. There is no effective way to customize the news feed, even when attempting to reduce the frequency of certain topics. For instance, if an economics feed begins displaying celebrity news that is not of interest, there are times when there are no options to filter out such content.

This app without the subscription is very useful. The layout is easy to use and intuitive. The rating system is easy and I learned more about other Jews sources and what I didn't know from a few uses of it. After using it for a months or so, I finally decided to subscribe to the service. My one critique is that Ground News is primarily focused on politics and other depressing topics, but that's where you and I need the most impartial help. Other niche topics are not in here.

Originally, I would give the app 5-stars, and have recommended it to numerous friends and colleagues over the past couple of years. However, the May 2024 update changed the UI significantly, and *not* for the better. Moving through the UI is no longer intuitive and finding what I want to see is now more difficult, while the app attempts to push things the algorithm guesses are of interest to the front. Note to Ground News management: Poor UX will result in not renewing my subscription.

I like the idea. But searching for topics is extremely difficult. I want to follow some more topics that what are showing up in discover and when I use the search bar it only shows other articles. I want to see the topics I can add too, not the articles right now. It's extremely frustrating. Makes me think I'm canceling after the trial honestly.
