Helpful and good for beginners, tho with some limits. I'm a brand new guitar player (thanks COVID!) and these are great go-at-your-own-place lessons. Not without room for improvements. For example, the songs have 3 speeds and that's it, you can pause but it blocks the song. I'd like to be able to have a 5 sec rewind and/or pause where you continue to see the chord tabwhat's coming next. If I get lost in a song you have to play all over again to return to that section. Justin is a great teacher!

I have been using the Justin Guitar Beginners course almost every day since this Christmas and have absolutely loved it. I was up to module 8 before the new update. The new version off the app is unusable. To practice, I prop my phone up, or clip it to the head of my guitar. The app does not rotate to landscape mode except for videos and (sometimes) songs. When you have a guitar on your lap, a pick in your hand, etc... you can't be rotating your phone to read the menus and rotating it back to view a video or song. The navigation, even in portrait mode is horrible as it scrolls both up /down, and left/right on the same screen, so it (again reaching with a guitar on your lap) constantly scrolling where you don't want it. The new exercises are a huge step backwards as well. I was able to set up the chords I needed to practice and visually see where I needed to practice (with colors to highlight where I needed work in a graph or pyramid). Now it is a non-de script blue number that I need to actually click on every chord to see. I also lost many songs I used to play (or at least can't find them anymore) and I have lost all my ratings (1-3 guitar picks) so I was able to see my progress on the songs. The songs are also more difficult to follow along with and have extra dots and lighter colors so it is harder to read. The strum patterns are now much harder to read and use. Finally, where is the link on the song's page to the video lesson? Why would you not link the lesson of the song to the song anymore? I understand the need to improve and restructure the course, but the app is very disappointing. I feel like to lost many of the things I loved about the original app. I also feel that the new app has a very poor user interface making navigation and reading the screens more difficult. For example, the app uses blue text (like D DU UD) on a blue screen. Please fix the screen rotation problem. Please add back the features that I bought the app for and loved (especially better tracking of progress, video links etc...). I am rooting for you to get the app back to usable software. I really did love the original and hope that with some updates, this app can be as good or better. Thank you for you time

Great app for practicing. I had already been playing open chords when I started using this app. I have been using it for practicing my strumming and making chord changes in time. It's kind of like Guitar Hero for a real guitar, though it doesn't rate how well you did. The play along music is kind of cheesy sounding, but okay for practice. Overall I would recommend.

This used to be a five-star review before the new update. Old app was excellent and I was excited at my progress. But new app is quite a change and progressing through stages and seeing where I'm at is honestly confusing. I understand furthering the app but it truly feels not ready. For example, the app layout isn't stable - main screens are forced portrait but the lesson videos are forced landscape making you fumble with phone constantly with trying holding the guitar. Others have mentioned this. At first I was upset and considered cancelling subscription, but I'm going to keep trying and hopefully fixes will be coming for the portrait/landscape issues I am having on my Pixel 3a phone, and hopefully I can get into this changed app.

Started my journey in March. Never picked up a guitar before, but have progressed through level 5 beginners app. Watched the dreaded 'F' chord intro. two weeks ago. Been trying to make my fingers cooperate. Challenging, I'll say! In the mean time focusing on chord change drills to get the chords I can play into my muscle memory. Really enjoy the playlist of songs with each lesson. Justin gives tips on strumming and melodies which makes it even more interesting for this 🎸novice 😁🤟

Wish I can give Justin's instruction a 6th star! I tried out his lessons on his website and the app makes it so much easier to play the songs. This is the most I paid for an app/subscription and TOTALLY WORTH IT! Deducted a star for sluggish app performance: 1) slow to open; 2) app stop running in background when screen time-out, making the slow to load issue that much more frustrating; 3) progress won't sync across multiple devices (under the same Google account).

I'm having a lot of fun using the Justin Guitar app. I've been at it for a few weeks now and finally have the needed calluses to really practice. :D Justin's videos are very informative and the curriculum is presented in a logical manner starting simple and becoming more technical. The app is pretty intuitive and useful and you "unlock" well known practice songs as you progress with new chords. I'm more than excited to finally learn guitar; I'm ecstatic! Thank you for making these lessons!!!

pretty good app, it didn't allow full access one time after i paid. had to reinstall app and it voided my progress. it would be nice if u could skip around more and check off things out of order. if app doesn't work again, not sure i could continue and lose my progress. I hope that is not the case. songs with chords are great to learn and chord change exercises are good.

UPDATE 1/12/19: Right after I wrote my initial 5 star review on the old version I made the mistake of updating the app. Now I can't practice any of the stage 2 and 3 songs I have been playing. They are "locked" because I haven't "completed" all of the early exercises I already know!? 1/13/19: Changed to 3 stars. You can go into settings and mark lessons as complete so not as big of a deal just annoying. App is also slow to load. The teaching method is great but the app needs fine tuning.

I have never been more motivated or interested to learn than when I am using this app and his website. I have had a guitar for 17 years, tried private lessons, CD, YouTube etc but they were all so boring. This has been an absolute game changer. I'm now on week 5, I've never managed to do anything for this long! I love how well it's structured, good easy manner and calm lessons, the design of the app and everything. Definitely the best money I've ever spent. You're a bloody rock star Justin! 💕

EXCELLENT!! I really do enjoy the approach. It works great for me. I can say I tried this app approximately 7 years ago.. lost interest due to life happening. Recently started it again and I was absolutely blown away at the muscle memory I had retained from the lessons 7 years ago. That is what makes this a GREAT system!! Chord changes at 60 per minute my first week picking up the lessons again. Mind blown!

For the past 20 years, I've tried to learn guitar and this is my fifth attempt. Each time I've tried, I ultimately ended up quitting because I either couldn't find good resources or found the lessons overwhelming. This app and the Justin Guitar website make the experience a lot of fun without being overwhelming! I'm on day two using them both and I'm already at a much better place than any of the times in the past! Can't wait to see where I'm at in month!

Great beginner guitar app. The content is centered around the first 6 months or so. Common chords, tips like using a capo or fingerpicking. Tuner is mediocre, E string rarely registers when Fender Play is quite consistent. Songs are "karaoke" style. Some are better than others. Basically if you want to go from 0 to strumming along with the Beatles, mostly rhythm with some pentatonic lead lessons, absolutely get this app. Past 6 months, website has more lessons.

Robust guitar learning experience. Very reasonable price for all that you get. Still going after 2 years. I can play several songs, and I can practice almost anywhere. The price is still amazing and the song list keeps growing. I just hope Justin puts out an intermediate version after I am done with the beginner lessons. I will buy it for sure. Update: Still love this app. Just keeps getting better.

The lessons are great and the app is structured pretty well. I'm really learning (even if slowly) how to play and I'm excited! But, it crashes. All. The. Time. Especially when I'm trying to play songs. It's very frustrating. Might cancel my subscription even though I love the service because I have to reboot the app 3-4 times every practice session.

Justin is a great teacher. Ive been using this for about 6 months now, i paid for a year subscription to give me a road map and to keep me motivated to pratice. The lessons are well structured, challanging, but accessible for someone with no music background. Also, the song library is great and they're always adding new songs. The biggest con is that the app itself is kind of unstable. It's usable, maybe once or twice a week it will crash. (Also, there's no portrait mode on my samsung tablet)

Just bought my first guitar ever, I got this app and within a day it taught me 3 basic chords and gave me 16 basic songs to practice. If you have any questions this app will have a video explaining it, if you have trouble going from 1 chord to the next then you can specifically choose those 2 chords and it will have you go back and forth between the 2 as many times as you like. I'm having a blast learning! Thanks justin!

I tried learning to play guitar many years ago but didn't have much luck because of boring lessons. Justin guitar makes learning fun and exciting again with the way the lessons are set up. They're set up just right for your skill level and with the songs tailored along with what you're learning you can really see your progress.

After 6 months I feel I can play. Not crazy well but I have 5 or 6 songs I feel mostly confident to play for others and I feel songs are far more approachable. The app has taught me proper strumming patterns picking scales and a whole bunch else. Plus it has tons of great songs to play along with most with lyrics. I could go on for another hundred words on the other great features. Plus it's still very supported and on development. 10/10. Thanks Justin and Nitsuj!!!!!!

I've tried 5 competitor online guitar learning programs, and this is the only one that clicks on most levels. The instruction is good, and the song presentation helps me keep time and is not overly complicated. A HUGE plus for me is being able to remove vocals, other apps don't do that. PLEASE consider a way to zoom out and see all measures of a song instead of only one at a time, it would be a game changer for learning a song to memory.
