EDIT: I found a workaround to make offline reading work. Basically, you HAVE to make sure you see the red download progress bar go all the way up or otherwise there is no guarantee that the download has actually happened. Go to My Library and then Offline tab, and if you don't see the red progress bar reaching 100% there, then assume the download was not successful. Tap the comic, tap "remove from offline" and then immediately add it back on by tapping "read offline." Go back to My Library-Offline and make sure the progress bar moves. Just to double-check, go to airplane mode and see if you can access the comics. Don't even dream about queueing multiple downloads. Now my app review: Marvel Unlimited is an excellent service at a reasonable price. The app, which used to be a joke, has gone through significant updates and now is actually useable. The Smart Panel actually works. However, there is much room for improvement still. Following multiple series of comics is very cumbersome. There should be an option to follow the whole "series" instead of placing individual comic books in My Library. Once followed, the series should also notify you when new issues become available. Comics that have been read should be clearly marked as such. Offline reading should be streamlined as well (extremely buggy right now). There should be an option to automatically download new issues of "followed" series, just like podcasts. There is so much potential here but Marvel is squandering their valuable intellectual property behind this inaccessable and unintuitive heap of junk. It's like Marvel is deliberately discouraging you to read as many comics (is this a cynical ploy to make you turn to buy more comics?), which is a real shame. They need not just updates but a serious overhaul of this app.

Works well and great collection. Two downsides I've had are relatively minor; search doesn't always catch all appearances of a character, especially if they started before the 90's and smart pan doesn't always work right with older titles (although it does work for the large majority of titles). Also, I wouldn't use full page, anyways, but it's kinda useless when the pinch zoom resets immediately after zooming in.

I love marvel unlimited. I love being able to read all the old classic comics, as well as so many new ones. Right now this app is completely broken, and it has been for at least a week now. At first it was just taking forever to load each page, now I can't read anything at all. Update: I uninstalled and redownloaded, it took several tries to log into my account, but comics appear to be loading again, kind of slowly, but it's working.

Re: The September 2021 update While the app still contains thousands of comics, the functionality isn't as good. My internet is not the best, but I used to be able to open an issue and come back to it later, fully loaded ready to read. Now it seems pages don't load as well. Downloading issues is unreliable, neccitating restarting several times till it finally finishes. Finally, the search by character no longer displays in near chronological order.

Great app but it could be better. When I am finished with an issue, it suggests I go to the next issue and provides me a "read now" button. When I press it, it does nothing. Animates as if it was pressed, but it does nothing. So in order to go to the next issue, I have to back out of the reader and find the issue in the list, which can take a while if I'm reading a series that has a lot issues in it. Please fix this bug! I love the app otherwise.

Comics stop loading periodically requiring a restart or app to be reinstalled. The continue feature is often out of order and older comics reappear at the top of the queue. No sub feature to stay on top of what you're reading. No home button to easily get to main screen when reading a comic or at the end of one. Navigation is challenging. Won't renew sub till app is working properly.

The value is solid. But I'm not a subscriber. The old marvel app was shut down and all of my digital library was moved to this app. I can't transition from one book to the next, I have to pull open the drop down, exit, find the next book in the series, click the icon, the click read. Pretty wild they actively choose to have a convoluted interface, especially for a paid subscription service.

The new update really is quite bad. My app is crashing often, I can't get any issues to load on certain devices, etc. When it DOES work, the new interface for finding comics is slow and difficult, and essentially entirely independent on searches. My progress reading issues is all lost, the issues in my library are all in the wrong order, and it doesn't save default sorting preferences. Still 2 stars because the service itself is worth 5, but the new app is a hard 0.

Things I like in the September 2021 update: * Slightly nicer graphical presentation. * Grouping issues by series in the Library. * The ability to "follow" series. * More visible contributor credits (writer, penciller, colorist, etc.) for each issue. * Unlimited downloads. Unfortunately the update also removed many helpful, arguably essential features, leaving the app a far less user-friendly product. Some features I would really like to see restored: * The navbar (home, search, library, account) should be at the bottom of EVERY screen, not just a handful of top-level pages. The way the app is now designed, if I've been reading several issues, it sometimes takes me 7-8 clicks of the back button before I can return to the home screen. * The ability to skip back or forward an issue. The way the app is now designed, the only way to jump to the next issue is to go to the last page, and there is no way to jump back an issue at all. If I'm reading Uncanny X-Men #350 and I want to see what happened last issue, my only option is to open the entire series and scroll through hundreds of issues to get to #349. * Sort is not available on all screens (it's available on Downloads, and the *top* page of Library, but if you open up a series within Library you can no longer access any sort or filter features). Sort should be available any time there is a list of individual issues, including the "All Issues" tab of a series. * Sort is no longer "sticky". If you leave a page and come back to it, the sorting rules reset. * It's no longer possible to bulk-remove issues from the Library or Downloads. If I need to remove a lot of issues, I have to click each issue, click "remove", and click a confirmation for each individual issue, which gets pretty tiresome. * Can no longer view a list of issues as a compact grid. This makes scrolling through very long series (like Uncanny X-Men, > 500 issues) burdensome. * Can no longer search for comics by publication date. Some additional features that would be nice to see: * The ability to group Downloaded issues by series, the same way Library is. * The ability to remove all issues in a series from Library (or Downloads).

If it ain't broke don't fix it, and your fix broke it worse than ever. No more easy navigation back to home after finishing an issue, no more filter by read and unread issues, no more than five issues being remembered as recently read (which becomes a problem when I'm in the 1980s of Avengers and the weekly new comics are released, read the new comics, then have to re search) . Some of the new issues can't even be read and are only showing a retry button with "sorry, please try again later".

*Update 12/19/21 It took me a minute to track down the search feature I wanted, but I found it! Thanks for listening to fans who missed the feature! Well I was enjoying the app until the most recent update(8/31/21). Looks nice, but it completely ruined organization in my library. I'm trying to read every title chronologically, but now I can't tell where I am anymore and it has a ton of stuff re-added to the library that I've read and removed months ago.

The price is perfect. It's usually about 6 months behind for the new stuff. I use it for the series that I'm interested in, but not enough to get a subscription. But where it really shines is the back catalog. I started at Avengers Disassembled and have been making my way to the present reading every series I'm interested in in release order, multiple X-Men series, multiple Spider-Man series all in order. You can add what you want to a read list, and view it in order.

Marvel Unlimited is an amazing collection. But, this app... I can't even describe it. Quite possibly one of the worse apps I've seen from a huge corporation. An infinite amount of bugs, some serious lag, a needlessly complicated and outdated UI, and the worst excuse for an "offline" feature I've experienced. This development team needs to be re-trained or replaced, because these issues should not be happening a couple of years into the life of this app. I'll be cancelling the service soon.

The content of this app is great - obviously, it's a collection of Marvel comics. However, if you're like me and unsure of where to start when reading stories about your favorite classic characters, be prepared to be even more confused! There's no search function in this app, only the ability to browse. The way series are alphabetized is confusing, and many titles are so long you can see the year of publication on the browsing screen. The frustration is worth it, but they should fix these issues.

The new version is pretty ugly. Now the 'Continue Reading' list is far down the main screen, unlike how it used to be at the very top and easily accessible. Navigating each comic series is a chore. You have to click the comic you want, click on keep reading, and then click on view full series. All that just to go back even one issue. And the comics load slower than ever.

Very happy to update my review of this app! Finally back to the reading experience I had when initially signing up for the app in 2018. Add the ability to pay more for all current issues and it would be a perfect app! Being months behind isn't fun with comics stores closing. Maybe add a higher tier payment option to have access to up-to-date comics?

It has come a long way and it actually pretty good now with a great selection. It isn't too nuts if you want a subscription and combining your comixology account with it is a nice touch. If only it could check your Google books for purchased titles as well and give you the option for storing on external. Keep up the good work overall.

Access to over 30,000 comics! Just what I needed! I hope you guys make a better interface as well as add an option to read entire comic book collections rather than having to read all the issues. It would make it easier to make it through multiple series! Finally I really hope you guys add a feature where comic book readers can rate the comic books that they've read on a scale from 1 to 10! Please add a section where I can see all the books I've read! Other than that, I couldn't be happier :)

The interface on this app is slow and glitchy, and with every update (or perhaps even just randomly) it deletes my entire library and all my reading progress. When scrolling through series to find a particular issue, clicking on it, and then backing out the app automatically sends you to the beginning of the series, which for a 4 issue run is fine, but when I was reading ASM #304 it's a colossal hassle. Still better than Comixology post Amazon redesign, but honestly, kind of a bad app.

A great way to read Marvel comics! The subscription is kinda annoying but I understand it. Having old and new comics being readily available on my phone is super convenient. I only wish that you had better ways to browse. I've tried to find certain runs or issues and it's been kinda a hassle. And if you look for a certain character, you have to scroll through every issue they've been to try to find the one you want. So a great service with a few hiccups but definitely worth the money.
