More About Mobile Passport Control

Mobile Passport Control (MPC) is an official application created by U.S. Customs and Border Protection that streamlines your CBP processing experience at select U.S. entry locations. Simply fill out your traveler profile, answer CBP inspection-related questions, and proceed straight to the “Mobile Passport Control” lane at the airport or seaport.
MPC is a voluntary program which can be used by U.S. Citizens, Canadian Citizen Visitors, Lawful Permanent Residents, and Visa Waiver Program Visitors at any of the supported airport and seaport locations found on our website: https://www.cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/mobile-passport-control

MPC provides a more efficient, secure in-person inspection process for the CBP Officer and the traveler, and shortens overall entry wait times.

MPC can be used in 6 simple steps:

1. Create a traveler profile using biographic information from your passport; You can create a profile for all eligible members in a family group. Your profiles will be securely stored on your device completely free to be used for future travel.

2. Select your method of travel, select your port of entry and terminal (if applicable), answer CBP inspection-related questions, certify the truthfulness and accuracy of your answers, and, upon arriving at your selected port of entry, tap the “Submit Now” button.

3. Capture a clear and unobstructed photo of each traveler (including yourself) that you added to your submission.

4. Once your submission is processed, CBP will send a virtual receipt back to your device.

5. Proceed to the MPC designated lane upon arrival and be prepared to present your passport and other relevant travel documents. Please note: MPC does not replace your passport; your passport will need to be presented to the CBP Officer.

6. The CBP Officer will complete the inspection. If further information is required, the CBP Officer will let you know.

The app is easy to use but doesn't work properly. Apparently, you're supposed to get a barcode to show to the immigration official. We didn't have a bar code, and neither did anyone else in line with us. The person guarding the line kept yelling at us to make sure we had the barcode, but wouldn't tell us how to get it. She kept yelling that the officers were getting mad because no one had barcodes. But when we go to the officer, he didn't even ask for a barcode ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Used it to go through customs at SEA-TAC. No issues, and I got to bypass the longer line. My only complaint, is that I can't do the photo before I land. Made that a bit awkward to do while trying to collect my kuggage.

I got to the end of the process scanning passports and taking pictures and the app failed for an unknown reason. I told the gate agent who manually checked my passport, he said it wouldn't have made any difference or sped up the process at all. He said the app failed when he used it for personal travel.

App Doesn't work like. Everything seems to work fine until you get to Customs and they ask for a QR code that the app is supposed to produce. The attendant tells me I did it wrong and to do it again. Did it the only way you can, she even observed. Still no QR code. Told I was going to have to get to the back of the regular passport line. Same thing happened to the only other person in the MPC line.

It didn't say to connect to WiFi, just that I wasn't at the airport (I was) or that submission failed, even after I connected to the airport WiFi. I wasted time trying to connect to CBP-GUEST, which requires an account and isn't for this. Once I restarted my phone and connected to airport WiFi, it worked fine and quickly.

The app itself seems to be convenient; I was surprised it was free, and I was able to use the JFK Wi-Fi, scan the QR code on posters scattered through the lines and register myself (U.S. citizen, passport scanned on the app & selfie) & husband (German citizen, only name & photo) & we were instructed to go to another desk. However, the desks were another matter. The screens at the hall entry said only an 8-minute wait; we are here now for over an hour (the same time needed for the "normal" line

App is simple enough but the airports need to actually improve how it is used. Tried using on e before at YUL - "agent wasn't there to accept" - join the usual line. YYZ - "MPC line" is the only line, so... join the usual line. What difference does it make except the few seconds to complete at a declaration at a terminal? Use your own device (less cost to the airport/border services to maintain tablets at the border crossings), benefit of no contact, but not a huge advantage for time savings.

The app works well but with no sense of using it. I put everything in and summit, it turned out that I need to take photo again by counter agent. It is not like of what I expected of fill, submit, show (scan) receipts, then walk away. Using this app will take more time but normal process seems like taking much less time. I will not use it next time.

Fast little app that helps to skip the line at many airports and ports, and the FAQ and tutorials are very helpful. Desperately needs more language options and better streamlining at the actual border control points, staff are not all well-trained in what to do with it or promoting the app. TSA deserves a 1-star rating but this app is solid.

Saw this app and indicated a special lane and quicker processing for ATL. We were on an incoming flight from Korea with a tight (1hr 20 min) connecting flight. Had completed the app before leaving the plane. Displayed the app as we approached the inspection area. We were directed to the same line as everyone else. Got up to the agent and he said he did not have the scanner for the app and had to do the normal procedure... Made our connecting flight, but deleting the app anyway.

It's very easy to set up. It's also very easy to submit an arrival to get a QR code. However, the list of airports that support the app is not accurate. ORD (O'Hare in Chicago) does not support the app, so submitting an arrival turned out to be pointless even though the airport is listed as being supported.

Very quick through customs! Make sure you have the app downloaded before you start traveling. put your passport information in as well. that way when you land all you have to do is take a picture of your face and select your entry gate etc. We went through in less than 5 minutes at Dulles international airport. We got in line right behind a couple diplomats and went right through.

I was disappointed that I kept getting an error after multiple times of submission. It has not happened before but of all the times as a frequent flyer to have me miss a connecting flight because of a glitch in the system and I had to stay in a very long custom line at the airport. Why would it not allow me to submit and keeping having this annoying error.

It scans passport info very well. But there are several problems. Our flight arrives to MIA terminal N to but no such terminal was listed. More troubling, the customs questions are COMPLETELY unreadable on my Pixel 7. I could only guess by the icons that I should answer no to all ( I hope I haven't answered any incorrectly). Nice idea to have custom declaration on as an app but it is absolutely incredible that an app this important has not been properly field tested.

1* because I couldn't get past the "what port of entry" stage because it thinks Newark only has terminals B & C. I'm flying into A. Then I read a bunch of reviews and based on reading it's glitchy and not even accepted in most airports, I probably saved myself some time, so 2nd * for that. Oh and bonus: the app isn't showing up in my app list, so I can't add a shortcut to my home screen.

Super simple to use. The passport scan feature works better than my experience with airside. We flew through customs at LAX. One individual gave it one star because they had to pull down their mask for a photo. Its ridiculous that would drop it so low. You have to drop your mask for tsa, customs, and to take a drink or eat on a long trip. Find a secluded corner if you're uncomfortable. I for one was very happy with this app and it is another example of the efficiencies of the United States.

I downloaded the app and completed all of the required inputs, including photo and Q & A's within the 4 hr. time frame. When it came time to actually use the Mobile Passprt for entry, it did not download to be usable. I received a notice that I need to install a new app called Airside. It was very frustrating to receive this notice at the very last minute as I was entering the Passport processing line in Newark, NJ. The process saved me no time,it was actually a big waste of time.

App does work well. Only problem is it's not widely useable even for airports listed as using it. Only works and helps if the airport has a separate line and Automated passport Control(APC) machines. MSP does NOT. So complete waste of time. Edit 2024, 2 years after the app said MSP was available, and app still shows MSP but it's still not here !!!

Download and install ok. The "take photo" part should be earlier in the process of filling in the form. It only asks after landing . Then, it never could submit the form after landing. I had to go through the normal process at CBP. Wasted time with the app. Other communication was happening so the network wasn't the issue. There is some work to do.

This app is pretty useless. I tried it but you can't submit it until you land at the entry point airport. Then you have to take a photo of yourself. Clear light, no distracting backgrounds, no other distinguishable faces, and you can't pull a photo from your gallery. It's next to impossible to meet these conditions while you're in the airport at customs. This step should probably come before the submit button. No idea what comes after that. Didn't get passed the photo portion.
