More About ParentSquare

What is ParentSquare?
-------------------------

ParentSquare is a safe and secure platform for all school-to-home communication. The two-way group messaging, private conversations, district-wide alerts and notices, and simple user interface keeps everyone connected, creating a vibrant school community.

In today's ed-tech world, schools need a better communication system than relying on hard-to-track emails, lost flyers, missed robocalls, website updates that are never read, or piggybacking on SIS or LMS tools meant for student communication. ParentSquare brings the power of ed-tech revolution to the parents. It reverses the trend for disparate, one-way communication that keeps parents as 'spectators' to their child's education.

Understanding the need for a whole-school adoption, we strive to keep an easy to use interface for ParentSquare, much like the social tools you are used to in today's online digital world. ParentSquare caters to every parent, including those who rarely use technology.

ParentSquare for Android
-------------------------

With ParentSquare for Android, parents can easily connect with teachers and staff at their children’s school from their Android device. The app allows parents to:

- View posts, appreciate and comment
- Sign up for wish list items, volunteer, and RSVP and view your sign ups
- Check dates for upcoming school and class events and add them to your device calendar
- Send private messages (with attachments) to staff members (or other ParentSquare users*) in your school
- Participate in group conversations
- View posted pictures and files
- View the directory of your child’s school*
- View notices (attendance, cafeteria, library dues)
- Respond to absences or tardies*
- Purchase for goods and services offered for sale by the school

* If allowed by your school's implementation

I've had a less than stellar experience w/ this app. Trying to navigate my way through it is like navigating the Bermuda Triangle! I can't send direct messages to the teachers & homework reminders aren't anywhere to be found. Having to double tap the back arrow EVERY time I want to see the previous page is incredibly annoying... & confusing for me. #lessthanstellarexperiene

Use it because I have no choice. No granular controls for notifications by channel or even just to make them silent - it's all or nothing. Clunky interface, very slow, no offline caching, basically what you'd expect from software sold to people other than end users - i.e. no focus on UX since the people using it don't pay/choose to do so.

Works fine so far with basic job of sharing messages from school. It doesn't seem the school uses it much yet for other tasks like tracking grades, keeping up with schedule, etc. The app seems well organized, clear and simple so far. It will be great if it can do a good job of organizing the huge amount of changing information from different groups at school.

Has the ability to be good but far from it. As a teacher, it's very confusing to use. Ways to make a Post and create messages to class are in completely different places. Only admin has access to see if messages were read but teachers don't. Dashboard says that 90% of our school is receiving posts, but most of the parents aren't getting them. When teacher gets notification they have a message, it's difficult to find it in the list. The color choices are awful. But great edit tools!

Easy to use and extremely convenient to have all notices in one place for multiple children instead of my email which has everything else. It is also super easy to communicate with teachers and school staff and not wait a long time for replies. Only feature that could be helpful is a filter so you don't have to scroll through everything to find the entry you want.

The recent update to this app, combined with the recent OS update on my phone, have affected how this app works. I cannot receive notifications anymore, no matter my settings. While trying to view pictures, the app constantly reports that it isn't responding, even when it's actually working. This continues even after I close the app. Nothing has changed after a few months and updates. This app stinks.

I have multiple kids it's hard to sift through and find messages. You literally have to scroll and scroll and scroll to find what you're looking for. Also, it's hard to zoom in on things. I personally would prefer to just email. Email is so much easier you can organize it into folders mark important ones it automatically adds things to your calendar, it's in the order in which it's received and most importantly you can search for things! I can't stand parent square!

Clicking on notifications doesn't take you to the new message/post. Instead you end up going to the message/post you were previously looking at. There is no way to save a draft of a message. You cannot search through previous messages. When moving away from a draft before sending it, it doesn't prompt you that you're about to lose it either. App sporadically sends you message notifications. Sometimes people write to you and you aren't notified.

It's nice to have notifications instantly, but functionally it is not easy to use especially for teachers. It's easy to send messages to parents and classes but very difficult to send messages to other teachers or staff and EXTREMELY difficult to find past messages. The sign up feature is also easy to use but VERY limited compared to other options available for free. I can think of several other options that I would recommended before this. I am using both the Android app and PC with same result

Clunky, hard to navigate, hard to find old messages, to actually take surveys, etc, I have to go to the website instead of the app, contacting anyone through the app is difficult except as a reply to a message but the teachers say to do it that way, oh and then they don't see the messages. Basically, I think the school made a poor choice and now we are all stuck with it. 4/15 update: still a disaster

Difficult to navigate when sending texts. Can't enlarge pictures/notices, which is irritating. What is particularly vexing is that the school calendar doesn't open. As a result, I can only see what is happening one school week at a time. I am unable to plan ahead of time. Does not live up to potential. Thank you for responding. Can you make it possible to enlarge the notices? I have to take a screenshot, then enlarge that in order to read notifications.

Long email chains and can't save images. I want to like this app but two main features that I use a lot stop me: when you get the messages in email form you get every single message in that thread so it's super long. The second issue is that images that are shared in the app can't be saved. I think it's a bug but they haven't fixed it in months.

It was great in the fall (2021), but I've had several issues in the past month or two. It seems like it became less intuitive. When I open the app it now defaults to a page that rarely has relevant information, which adds extra clicks in order to get to the posts I'm looking for. Annoying. Last month I also realized I was not getting some critical alerts from the school district, but it was not obvious what settings I needed to change.

Recently, I have been having a strange issue with this app regarding notifications. Very suddenly, I am unable to receive notifications from the app, only via email and text. No matter how many times I go into settings and try to enable app notifications, it turns off by itself. I thought maybe something was wrong with my permissions settings on my phone, but everything is enabled there. I really want this issue resolved as I much prefer push notifications.

This app crashes frequently and will not navigate easily between pages. Does not allow you to go from home to messages, you have to select events or other then back to messages in order to get into messages screen. Also, in home screen it does not allow you to easily scroll through older announcements. When scrolling through older announcements it quickly bounces back to newer ones not allowing you to read or view older ones.

As though we are all retired; &, have time to deal with the inundation of the seemingly non stop communications; regardless if they have anything to do with us; or, our particular student. In my opinion there are too many platforms. I would rather that an existing platform be expanded, than to continue creating new ones. For this, I take a double hit; both via email & the parent square app: For me, personally, it's over kill. My 2 cents worth, which, although honest, will be found offensive.

Very cluttered interface, not at all intuitive. Needs major UX improvements. Our district is rolling this out, starting with the communication section. The communication feed is a mess. It's a wall of repetitive text. The graphic design/visual aspect is so cluttered and overwhelming. Zero attempt at visual hierarchy. Get rid of the heart/comment stuff - why clutter the screen if the school disabled the comments? Use logos instead of cluttering screen with the full district name. ugh.

I RSVPed to an event yes and the app thinks I said no, and I can't see how to change it. Tried to check help whcih didnt seem helpful, but maybe wanted me to go on PC and can't even see how my RSVP is recorded. The app also doesn't open the current item I click on. It will consistently open the prior item I was looking at. The app is horribly cumbersome to find a specific message. It is a complete pain in the behind.

I loathe this app and only use it because the school system insists. Alerts, documents, notifications never work as expected. Despite logging in, the app delivers errors of failure to authenticate - to access report cards or documents I have to access through my email, sign into the app, and then RETURN TO EMAIL to trigger the download. Clunky, poorly tested, awkward UX for forms and sign ups. Plus if you have an issue, forget about support. Limited forums, no contact forms, zero training.

It's better than trying to find announcements on Facebook or outdated websites. Frustrating because app notifications seem to not be an option on my new Galaxy S24. I checked that the phone is set to allow notifications for the app and used the advanced settings so I could go to the app and fine tune how I get messages. Luckily, texting was an option since the app notification slider keeps changing back to "no" every time I try to select it.
