Plum Village: Zen Guided Meditation App – Main Categories
=================================================

The Plum Village app is split into four easy-to-use categories – meditations, talks, resources, and bells of mindfulness:

Meditations

Meditation is a deep practice that helps us generate peace and calm, master our mind, develop a healthy headspace, and get deep insights into ourselves and the world around us.

Meditations include deep relaxations, guided contemplations, silent meditations, and eating meditations. Whether you have a little time or a lot, and whether you want to be on your cushion or applying mindfulness in your daily life, there are meditations to nourish, inspire, and incorporate into your daily routine.

Talks

Listen and learn from the wisdom of Thich Nhat Hanh and other Plum Village meditation teachers.

Ask Thay includes hundreds of real-life questions asked to the Zen Master, like “How can we let go of anger? and “How can I stop worrying?” His answers are compassionate and infused with insight.

Dharma Talks are teachings given by Thich Nhat Hanh and others on how to bring Buddhist wisdom and mindfulness into our life. Rather than discussing theoretical concepts, they focuses on direct and clear teachings to relieve suffering and create happiness in our day to day lives. Topics include depression, PTSD, relationships, sexual abuse, fear, and dealing with strong emotions.

Resources

In Resources you can find a library of daily practices, chants, poems, and songs. These bring to life the practices taught in Plum Village monasteries around the world and offer ways to bring mindfulness into our world, wherever we are.

Bell of Mindfulness

In Plum Village monasteries bells of mindfulness chime at regular intervals. Everybody stops and takes three mindful breaths to pause from their thinking or talking, breathe, and return to their bodies. The Bell of Mindfulness allows us to have the same reminder on our phone.

We can customize the bell to chime at different time periods. Settings include:
• Start time / End time
• Chime intervals
• Bell volume
• Daily repeating schedule

This is new to me..practising mindfulness. There are so many thoughtful ,easy to follow meditations teaching me that the world is a wonderful place. We just have to open our eyes...and minds to it. The App is easy to use and what's even better, is it's free. 🙏🪷

Great app! Thank you a lot for your work on developing it. Minor thing: it would be useful to be able to configure day for mindful bell or safe the initial settings after disabling.

A wonderful resource for meditation practice, there are lots of short accessible practices that explore different ways of approaching mindfulness. I am using the app to read up on the dharma. I've found comfort in trying to replace doomscrolling and playing distracting videos for sleep, with listening to dharma talks. The app is free, I will be making a donation on my pc as I had trouble donating on the website on my android phone. Thank you, Plum Village!

Wonderful app with LOTS of different meditations. It's always free and designed to truly help others...not just make money for the owners

current UI makes it unusable on my device, since the header "start" and "skip" buttons in the tour overlap with the top icon bar of my phone and are unclickable.

So many great resources - from relaxing sounds playing in the background, to guided meditations of all lengths and topics, to my favourite feature of setting a mindful bell to sound periodically throughout my day. Love this app and so very grateful for it.

What an incredible resource! I couldn't be more thankful for the content and the care taken to generate the content. I feel the love provided in the app and understand that the time that I spend using the app will plant seeds of love, patience and joy that I can share with others. Thank you from the bottom of my soul and heart.

This app is amazing. It has many types of meditations that speak with the voice of the Buddha and helps me get through my day with features like the mindfulness bell. However, I do get notifications quite frequently saying this app crashes a lot. I also wish there was a feature in the search bar where you could filter meditations and talks. But, it still gets 5 stars because of the amazing things it has done.

Absolutely beautiful app that keeps getting better! So many meditations, interviews, and practices, all for free! Donations are welcome to keep the app going, but you're not bombarded with ads. It's just fantastic 😊

This app is clearly a heartfelt gift from Plum Village. It is thoughtfully designed and presented with care. There is so much on offer here, it is difficult to single out what to mention. I use the silent meditation timers everday. Previously, I had not thought much about the importance of how the bell sounds to begin and end zazen, but it has come to mean a great deal. There are many treasures lain throughout. Thank you Plum Village.

This is a great app, and I was excited about the mindfulness bell feature, HOWEVER, it only worked for a day and now no matter what I do they no longer sound at all on my Galaxy note 8. I was also able to set it to a specific sound other than my general notification sound, so I'm glad for that. Please get this working again, it is something that I found so helpful in keeping my mind calm and with the dhamma throughout my day.

I found out about Plum Village through The Way Out is In podcast. I eventually wandered over to the Plum Village app, and I enjoy it very much. I am a novice practitioner, and the app has resources that are accessible to me as a beginner. I would also venture to say that the wisdom contained within is also applicable and accessible to more advanced practitioners.

I like this app's variety of meditations, chants, and lessons. I mostly use the talks on fear and depression and the shorter morning and evening meditations. It's easy to add the short ones onto my daily 10-15 minute practice. The app has a clear spiritual/religious grounding (Buddhism), but I don't feel like I need to be Buddhist to appreciate the lessons. In fact, I kind of like that all the meditations and teachings are grounded in a consistent point of view.

I discovered Plum Village and the Dharma Talks on You tube. They helped me through an extremely difficult time and further, helped add depth, meaning, and joy to my life. I found out about the app while listening to the podcast "The Way Out Is In". It is very easy to navigate, and provides many resources for bringing yourself home, practicing mindfulness, and learning. The soothing familiar voices of the monastics are with me always now, thanks to this app.

This app is everything I've been looking for. However, when I set the meditation timer, I don't want any interval bells. Even when I set it to "no bells" it still chimes about every 10 seconds. Am I perhaps doing something wrong? EDIT: I was doing something wrong, I just needed to wait to let the bells chime 3 times and then they are silent the rest of the meditation :) This is a wonderful app and everyone who works on it is so kind. I feel calmer simply by opening it!

Update: The bell mysteriously rings at unexpected times even when I have turned it off. This happens infrequently but it sure is a great reminder. A great spirit must know it's time for me to be still and breeeathe! Heehee! Much more than I expected. Great teachings and practices. The mindfulness bell sounds better on the speaker rather than from the cell phone. I do wish that the bell would resonate longer and have an option for three times. but other than that it is wonderful!

Wonderful app, full of resources. One issue that perhaps someone can help me with: I have set the Mindfulness Bell to ring every 30 min, but it doesn't ring. Only a written notification pops up. Under Sounds, I have set the app to allow notifications. Volume is turned up, Do Not Disturb is turned off. Not sure what else to try.

Full of well-organized content. Very impressive and accessible! I got the app for the timer I can set to ring a mindfulness bell every 5-to-60 minutes. Downside: every time the bell goes off, it adds a notification to the notification bar. They stack up throughout the day. Ironic that it's a mindfulness practice that wants me to check my phone every time it goes off. Played with the settings for a while, seems impossible to turn off the notification without turning off the bell entirely. Edit: Also I can't make the bell stop going off every 5 minutes, now, even though it's completely turned off.

Best mediation app, even better than meditation apps you pay for. Good selection of mediations: guided, silent, and even some you can do with children, my preschooler loves the hug meditation. Provides enough selection but not so much content you run into decision fatigue. You can also pick duration of mediations. I recommend it to my family and friends.

Wonderful app. Helps me to find moments in the day to practice. I very much enjoy the bell reminder. I have mine set hourly and, whatever I am doing, I stop when I hear it and breathe for at least 3 breath cycles. I have really enjoyed the deep relaxations as well. I also love the Dharma talks and listen to them on walks. They are always adding new content and you have the ability to download and save your favorites. I highly recommend this app.
