This app is an excellent replacement for the previous app that we were using. The clean and sleek design is highly appreciated making the experience of enjoying my podcasts so positive. As to Ads, none of them disrupts your listening experience, and they are confined to graphics when they are necessary to be displayed. And if I ever need help, their Help articles are just a click away with the answers. Customer service is fast, friendly and easy to reach. They are there to help you.

Initially, I tried YouTube Music when Google Podcasts went away. It failed miserably as a podcast app. I then found Castbox(orange). It is superior! It has additional features that I was waiting for Google Podcasts to implement, like multiple playlists. I'm still trying to learn the new layout of the app. The sorting feature is lacking, as there are options to sort by, but you are unable to choose which direction. Also, I hope this app can be selected as a podcast service in the Google Home app.

2024-May: Switching to Podbean because the ads are too frequent and pervasive. I haven't used another app that displays so many ads. 2024-Mar: Wayyyyy too many ads! Good app, but the quantity of ads caused me to downgrade from 5 stars to 2. It's only a matter of time before the annoyance of ads causes me to switch apps. 2020-Apr: Still flawless. Never had a single problem with this app! 2018-Nov: Quite easy to use and has worked flawlessly for me!

Video ads have been added. I have to watch 10+ seconds of video just to play a podcast. God forbid you're not on wi-fi and have to wait for it to load so you can't do anything. I've been using this app for years and will be immediately switching to an alternative. From a decent app to trash in one move.

Great app overall. I took off two stars for the following reasons - At times, it keeps playing the same episode in the playlist without changing the settings. - For each Playlist menu, the Download All is placed after Mark All as Played/Unplayed and before Clear All. None of these actions can be "undo" if I accidentally touch the wrong menu item. It happened to me, and I ended up manually searching for each episode that I had curated. -Marked as played episodes don't show up in your history.

Nice that it supports Android Auto, but it has a perverse, confusing design and continues to show some ads after paying for it. Multiple playlists? No one needs > 1. Zen mode? Toss it. If I want to queue up a podcast to play, I want it downloaded, and vice-versa. When I mark one played, I want it dequeued and file deleted. Don't make me rotely click around to tell you the obvious. A lot is nice, but enough is wrong to warrant a low rating. Not a great app, but it could become one.

After searching through a half dozen podcast players, this is clearly the right choice. Intuitive GUI, automatically allowed me to pause from lock screen, skip ahead is 30 sec (standard) but skipping backwards only goes 10 sec (which I LOVE when just missing something small) and all ads are very unintrusive. The last podcast player you will ever need!

I wish that as soon as I opened the app it continued where I left off. I'm referring to ease of usability when hopping on the car for example. It takes several touches and scrolling to get to my where I left off. Just saying. I'm still using it as I did pay for premium to access exclusive content. If only it had this feature I mentioned is lacking, the app would be marvelous!

There is no banner for pause/play/skip - even if you want to play back the last 10 seconds, you have to open the app. Often the invasive full screen ads then get in the way and you have to find the x to even pause, much less rewind or skip. The app also cannot tell the difference between a text and navigation directions. Although you can turn a setting on to pause when navigation is speaking, it will pause exactly the same way for a text message.

Good but glitchy. When it works, it's great, but it often doesn't work. Despite being on the correct settings, Castbox "forgets" to enable earbud controls and allowing notifications and driving directions to override podcast play, forcing me to toggle the selection switch on and off to get it to work again. This is especially annoying if I'm on the road and have to pull over to fix it. The app randomly crashes for no known reason and has to be restarted.

Seems like it wants to do everything BUT play podcasts. I don't want to "engage with the community" and I dont want all the other "features" it's trying to provide at the expense of a clean & intuitive UI. Downloading random podcasts took forever to figure out how to stop. The controls are not intuitive. You have to click through 3 screens to find settings but by God, your "inbox" is front and center. Hard to use while exercising/driving because controls are tiny (to make room for ads).

Developers too busy making useless features and bloat instead of creating an intuitive and great app first. Some podcasts played while I was sleeping for some reason even though there is no sort of auto play enabled and now those episodes cannot be restored to my new episode even after clearing my castbox history and all app storage. Ridiculous way to have app work.

I have used and enjoyed this app for years, but the format of adds has steadily gotten worse and is just not bearable anymore. They not only interrupt navigating the app, but they have fake closeout buttons that don't close the add and make you end up opening the darn thing. I keep opening Pinterest and random websites. Finally moving on from this app.

The app itself is all right, but it downloads a ridiculous amount of unwanted podcasts to your phone. I've had it for a week, and it has already downloaded 33 unwanted podcasts. Thankfully, I only use this device on wifi and it wasn't able to burn up my data. I also get a notification every time it downloads a podcast, so as you can imagine, it's pretty distracting. Two stars because the app itself would be all right if it wasn't downloading things without permission.

Since google left the podcast game I've tried several different platforms. This is the best I've found. But.... one really annoying quirk that I cannot seem to solve because it is inconsistent is playback on Playlist. For whatever reason about 70% of the time it will not play the next episode in the Playlist it just replays the last episode I listened to. I cannot figure out why and it isn't consistent. Help?

Really liked this app when I first started using it. But in the last year, it's just gone crazy with unskipable ads. You can't click anything without an ad interrupting, and making you sit there for 20 seconds, waiting to do the thing you wanted. Don't misclick, you'll get another ad when you back up, and another when you click the thing you wanted. Recommend looking into other apps. I am.

Used to love this app and recommend it. Now, the ads are so intrusive that I feel it's unusable. It forces a full screen ad when you try to start listening to a podcast, and even if it's a simple banner ad, the box to close it has a ridiculously small size, so they're artificially inflating their click through rate by bouncing you between the app store and the ad 20 times before you hit the right pixel to get to the playlist. Then it crashes. Then you repeat the process.

I guess Castbox owns two podcast apps? Not sure what the point is. But both apps have ads that are too intrusive. I'm fine with some ads, but not the constantly changing ads while a podcast is playing. When I look at my screen, I want to see what podcast is being played, not a constant stream of ads. Plus, hard to believe it doesn't contribute to battery drain. I miss Google Podcasts. :( I'll be looking for an alternative.

06/07/24 - After some patches, the app runs pretty well. The occasional lost progress on longer podcasts and random crashes but otherwise fine. The thing I can't stand at the moment is the intrusive, video, and audio ads. I understand bills need to be paid, but running a video ad you can't skip for 20 seconds just to pause your media is ridiculous. Every other time I change pages from one to another it runs an ad. The quick, skipable and banner ads are fine. These are becoming a deal breaker.

I have used CastBox almost exclusively for years now averaging at least 4 hours a day and over 10,000 hours on over the last several years. It's easy to use, navigate, reliable, and has everything I need. Imagine my surprise and disappointment when these new extremely long NixPlay ads starting popping up. They are intentionally deceptive with the location of the close out "x" and I have a hard time getting past them. It's totally ruined the experience. Please remove these ads immediately!
