Oct 2022 update. Redesigned app is cumbersome and glitchy. Tried to provide Politico feedback directly, but the app froze and so could not. Will delete. New app freezes after 1-2 stories. As a government executive, politico was my goto app for indepth analysis from various perspectives. But the redesigned app fails. (My tablet is a year old so it shouldn't be a tech problem.) If MAZ can't fix the app, politico customers will have to turn to the Economist, the Atlantic, or other reliable apps.

If you get a notification from this app about breaking news, ignore it. If you tap on the notification the article will load completely, just long enough for you to read the first sentence, only to be replaced by a notification stating that the article is not available and that you should check your internet connection. This happens 100% of the time, regardless of the state of your internet connection. Use your browser instead.

App constantly gives me notifications for articles (that I often want to read), but never allows me to read them. Everytime I click a notification it crashes and says no internet connection, even though I can still use every app on my phone, including Politico, without any connectivity issues. Edit: uninstalled the app. After months the same issue was never fixed

App crashes all of the time and I have to restart it, and even this doesn't work sometimes. Articles fail to load most of the time. Why??? Otherwise, the progress bar that appears at the top when reading stories is really nice! I wish all of the news apps would do this!

Absolutely atrocious app. Politico is one of my most trusted news sources, but the interface, notifications and bugs in the app make it unusable. The quality is pathetic, with constant crashes, errors and major design flaws. The notifications straight up dont work, often displaying no information at all. This shouldn't be this hard, please fix it.

Frustrating, to say the least. This is the only news app I use that fails to work consistently. Click on an article, then nothing. Clear the cache and it works for a short while. Uninstall it, the reinstall, and it works again for a short while. Repeat this over and over, and you'll understand why I'm uninstalling it permanently.

Content is good, and layout is simplistic but workable and attractive enough. It does have issues loading content from notifications - most of the time the article will temporarily display and then say it can't be loaded. It also does not update automatically upon opening. If they fix these two things I'd re-rate to five stars.

Same news stories displayed for over three weeks. No daily updates. Will also send a new news notice but when you click to read it takes you to a Politico screen saying 'no content' then flips to the 3+ week old news list. Others have complained but nothing has been repaired or updated. So..off to find a more workable/reliable app. Don't waste your time with this one.

About half the time I get a push notification the clicking it brings me to a screen saying there is no news updates at this time. That would be okayish if I could read the gist from the push notification but you can't as it doesn't expand its size and you only see the first like 4 or 5 words. Makes news hard to get from the app. UPDATE: 1 year later and the app actually got worse. I cant read any notifications when they come across they are just black with no readable text. When clicked on they often say no updates at this time. This app is terrible and dont suggest it. If you want political news look to the WaPo and NYT. They have functioning apps.

Very buggie app. It sends out notification that a news article is available, but when you click on the notification, it first opens the app to show that article, and then 2 seconds later, it blanks out and tells you the article is not available. Another frequent issue: you select an article to read, and it takes you to a completely different article. This app could seriously benefit from being completely revamped.

I like the content, and the interface is good, BUT everytime I get a notification it is blank! It's a waste of my time look at my phone and not be able to see what they're reporting! I've tried to contact them about the issue but havenneve received a reply. This issue happens has happened on multiple samsung phones. Hopefully (but doubtful) this issue will be fixed at some point.

Please update your app. It says last updated August 1, 2014. The push notification preview is blacked out in the notifications bar, and if selected, they're not immediately viewable on the Galaxy S7. I have to wait about two minutes before I can read the article, otherwise, I get an error message. The rest of the app functions as expected. UPDATE 08.23.19: This app is even worse on the Galaxy Note 10+. The app refreshes, but if you click on an article, it's empty. No text. No pictures. Horrible

1. Does not reload with new articles on opening. Having to go into the settings and manually clear the cache to force that to happen. 2. If I have closed the app I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR FROM IT. Should not have to dig around in the android settings to stop the notifications. It would ALSO be nice to be able to pay for an upgraded version so I am not looking at ads. They eat screen real estate I would like to use for reading the articles.

The news content is great and I've had the app for years but the new app is super annoying with several notifications per day that can't be disabled in the settings. I've gotten about a dozen interruptions today and can't take it any longer. This leaves me no option except to uninstall it. I'll check back in a month or so to see if it improves and decide whether to install it.

It stops working. I call and write to Politico and never get a response. Went back to Huffington post app. Update. The app is still a problem. Articles don't always load. You often have to open previous articles to open the article you want to read. The program also prevents my phone from going into sleep mode. I've had this app on a Samsung 7 and OnePlus. Both phones would not go into sleep mode automatically. If the politico app is removed, then sleep mode works

I have been really, really patient with this app, but I've reached my breaking point. Let me just sat that I love Politico and I love their articles. However, the app is, frankly, garbage. For months, I have been hoping that the Politico alert system would be fixed, but it has stayed the same. Every time I get a news alert, it appears on my phone as a black bar with none of the words generating. When I open up the alert, it often doesn't even have the alert and says it's not available. Avoid!

The news part is fine. My issue is the account stuff. My phone screen does not allow me to get to where the account setup, permissions, etc. can be completed. The buttons are always obscured by the bottom of the screen. The page cannot be manipulated, turned, pinched, pulled, whatsoever to allow me to actually see to even attempt to agree or disagree to anything. Any agreement should be completely readable in order to be accepted. Web view same as app view.
