More About Return to Monkey Island

Return to Monkey Island is an unexpected, thrilling return of series creator Ron Gilbert that continues the story of the legendary adventure games The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge developed in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games.
It’s been many years since Guybrush Threepwood was last locked in a battle of wits with his nemesis, the zombie pirate LeChuck. His true love, Elaine Marley, has turned her focus away from governing and Guybrush himself is adrift and unfulfilled, having never found the Secret of Monkey Island. Hip, young pirate leaders led by Captain Madison have shuffled the old guard from power, Melee Island has taken a turn for the worse, and famed businessman Stan has been imprisoned for ‘marketing-related crimes’.

Banter with old friends and new faces on familiar islands now under dangerous new leadership. Then, take to the high seas and explore the new and unknown as you work your way out of tough predicaments. Clever puzzles, bizarre situations, and devastating ripostes are all that stand between Guybrush and glory.

Return to Point & Click Swashbuckling
Bringing classic point and click gameplay to the modern-day, intrepid pirates will solve puzzles and explore the islands with a clever evolution of classic adventure game controls. Context-sensitive interactions, reactive dialog trees, and an easy-to-use inventory system make pirating a breeze.

Embark on Archipelago Adventures
Navigate the sometimes-friendly confines of Melee Island, a familiar place that finds itself under new management by leaders who have put the squeeze on old friends and new faces. Venture out into uncharted lands like the aptly named Terror Island and the chilling outposts of Brrr Muda to make allies and enemies alike.

Created by a Legendary Crew
The new chapter in the Monkey Island series marks the return of the iconic series’ creator Ron Gilbert, joined by game co-writer Dave Grossman, art director Rex Crowle (Knights & Bikes, Tearaway) and composers Peter McConnell, Michael Land, and Clint Bajakian (Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge).

Story, puzzles and whole greatness of Money Island series is all in here. There is no doubt this game is another great part of the story. Some suggestions which could improve experience - no cloud save means you can't continue your experience between different devices (even scummvm adds that feature to old games) - it would be very useful to add feature to keep screen on on mobile devices. It is frustrating to loosing dialog in the middle of because of this - I cannot force game to chat history

If i could give this more than 5 stars i would. The quests, the diagolue, everything except the art style (which is miles away from pixel art.. but nice) reminded me so much of the original games. I loved going back to old locations. I saw a review complaining about the credits at the beginning but if you loved monley island you live to hear that song and the nostalgia so no complaints there! The puzzles were taxing in places but never impossible. I loved it!

Love the game, the story, the point and click A great addition to the monkey island series. This is the true third game in my mind. It keeps the spirit, while renewing some aspects. I love it. A few issues. 1. On some devices (A53) the touch is not in sync with the screen, making me have to click elsewhere to hit an object. 2. The screen times out, which means I have to keep clicking the screen during cutscenes, other games prevent this. 3. The hold two fingers gesture doesn't work.

pleasant enough, though nowhere as funny as the original. some puzzles are hard, but at least there are free hints and it is a good length, though not worth the full price (I played free through Play pass). Ending is disappointing, too abrupt.. maybe it's on purpose, but still. the game also froze my phone a few times.

Cutting edge gaming experience! That story never gets old and the sequel was pretty surprising too!

A delightful nostalgic trip, a wonderful five-star game experience up until the underwhelming, uninspired, lazy ending to the story. The "secret" was a fitting and mildly humourous throwback to the original, but the other aspects of the grand finale were a slap in the face to a fan from the 8-bit days of thirty odd years ago, but I guess it's a Disney franchise now, so I can only say "how appropriate, you WRITE like a cow". Entertaining but sadly very disappointing.

I really enjoyed this game, it was a good length and a bit more interactive and thinking outside the box than other point and click games. The controls were easy to get used to and was hard but not too challenging you got frustrated. I found a bit too much dialogue and at times the skip didn't work so well. Ending was a bit of a let down but didn't take away from game.

I'm bummed because it's a great game so far but it won't load the jail scene anymore so I can't progress. I'm afraid to reinstall it and lose my progress

I am trying to enter the jail but it just goes black and the music keeps playing but nothing works. Please help and I will write a better review and star rating. I've emailed the creators but haven't heard anything back

Having played the first two games on the amiga this has the same feel and atmosphere but with up to date graphics and music, also using the s pen to control the game works great as well as the full screen you get with show camera cutout on s24 ultra 5 stars

I was a fan of the originals it was nice to see a reboot was available. This game is very easy and pretty short. It lacks the comedy and cleverness of the originals. It used to be fun getting things wrong to see what happens. Now everything is very obvious. It would have been nice to see some of the old elements like insult sword fighting but alas we love in much different times now where I suppose it would be unethical and abusive if the puzzles were too hard. 😅 at least we have the memories

I played Monkey Island 3 many years ago on a PC on both difficulties. Having this game (different story) now on my phone is amazing. I absolutely love this game, these characters, the storyline, the music...great nostalgia. And I live how classic characters are brought back. I can play at my own pace whenever I want. Good job LucasFilm. I hope this game lives forever and ever. I'll keep coming back

I really enjoyed this game! The graphics and animations were awesome, the dialogue was fun and engaging, the characters were interesting, even those you don't really talk to much. It was like a little interactive movie, lots of fun. I did play on casual mode and had to use hints here and there but never felt overwhelmingly frustrated. I love that the hints don't straight up give the solution, they're subtle at first so you still have a chance for that lightbulb moment.

I usually play a game for a while before I hop in with a review but I can already tell that I love this. The animation is very charming and detailed, dialogue is fun and engaging, controls are intuitive, story is great so far (even though I haven't even gone to the docks to gather a crew). Which by the way I love that you can do things at your own pace and go meet quirky characters who have their own unique personalities and back stories. Devolver Digital made another banger.

I absolutely loved the references to the older Monkey Island game. I also loved the ending. What others call a "let down" was to me, a wonderful way to hammer in the point and message that was repeated throughout the entire game: it's the journey that matters. There is a beautiful letter from the developers hidden in the Scrapbook on the main menu when you finish the game, and it explains why they chose this ending. Good length, funny dialogue, and puzzles ranges from easy to challenging.

It's ok, but the controls are extremely hard.. I tried to pass the dialog when the girl was talking about anchors && I tried everything && nothing would pass it even though you give us instructions on how to.. Idk if it's a glitch or what, but the tap gestures aren't registering 😩 Read your reviews & I'm not the only one having issues with the controls. It's very frustrating, which makes me not want to continue 😑
