More than what I asked for. I just wanted to be able to check notifications, the time, and other stuff with my lights off, without feeling as though I've lost a staring contest with the sun. This app lets you not only dim the screen, but schedule screen dimming, change the color of the screen dimming (for example, making the screen more red so your eyes are less strained), and set how much you want it to be dimmed with the notification interface. Really simple and useful app.

ive been using this app for years, always been my go-to. i think recently they added this app to the accessibility section of settings. ever since then I havent been able to use the app AT ALL. i have to uninstall and then reinstall to get it to work. this happens because every time i go to turn on the dimmer, it says i need to agree to it now being in the accessibility section, and to turn it on. it was no big deal— but I had already granted it access but it just keeps asking me despite this.

Better then anything else. Can make it dim enough it doesn't hurt my eyes and can read things for a long time without it giving off really any harmful light. Also just the ways you can adjust it is so nice. You can also move your phones own light to give off different types of dim light. Turn the bar fully down and then put this on and you get a very dark screen with little light that's good for indoors. Turn it all the way up and put on a dim setting it gives of perfect light for sunlight.

I like the shake on/off, dislike the fact that it crashes every 6-10 minutes. Using it at night is a gamble. 6 mins the screen is dark/dim then BAM you're blind, that really needsto be fixed. Would rate it higher if that wasnt an issue (also, doesn't seem to use up to much battery power, so mu phone can charge with it activated.) ~Had this app on an old phone long ago & it didn't crash as often. Also, idk if everyone else has this issue, but i have to give the app permission everytime I use it~

Uodate: No longer appears in notification shade to adjust brightness. In Quick settings to toggle on/off. Issue started with Android 10. Just what I was looking for! Works great. Dims everything including notification shade. Really like the controls on the notification shade to brighten and dim +/- 5 or 10. Also the setting to make the notification controls go away when app is not in use! Well done!

The only app I have found that does fullscreen dimming. I had issues with it erratically switching off accessibility permissions. Since this is how it achieves full screen dimming, it was problematic. I fixed it by enabling shake for both on and off and disabling side click. Edit 20211025: I found another bug. If set to dim to minimum, it disables adaptive brightness (if enabled), but then doesn't re-enable it when you turn off the dimming. It should remember and reset to user's initial setting.

This used to be the perfect dimmer app. Then something changed when I got my Pixel 6/Android 12. It's probably Google's fault. But it only retains my acceptance of accessibility access for a couple of days, then I have to go in and reset it. It's getting really annoying... But then again so is everything on Android 12. Hopefully they can fix it to be more compatible with the current OS.

I've used better dimmers in the past, but can't remember which ones. This one works ok, I like that it doesn't need a hard shake to turn on and off, when it works, but I've noticed it slows my phone down significantly. It take forever for the screen to unlock. I'm always wondering if it's too dark, when it's just not responding, so I'm shaking my phone like an idiot waiting. I have to force stop the app during the day so my phone isn't slowed or stays locked. Now I can't turn it back on... owell

Works well to dim my phone's unusually bright screen with just a shake. I do wish I had finer control of which direction to shake to trigger, but it's no problem as is. It works by overlaying a color on the screen, so it technically also reduces contrast at the same time as brightness, but it'd be perfect if contrast could be kept unchanged. I'm pretty sure that's an Android limitation, however. It works well enough that I might did* throw the Dev a few bucks. This app is a necessity!

I like the app for its simplicity and easy-to-use. Hopefully a feature of blue-light filter could be added. thanks! update: it looks that a blue light filter can be accomplished by adding a customized color in overlay color option as suggested by the author. it might be great if a predefined RGB# can appear in the overlay color pop to suggest a blue-light filter, so users do not have to find and manually enter the dark yellow/dark red RGB value.

This app works great for reading in the dark, since most phone brightness settings don't go down far enough. It has a "shake to turn off/on" feature which is kind of cool, but hat can turn screen dimming on or off in your pocket if your phone unlocks. I turned that feature off, and use its handy settings-bar button instead. If you have a Galaxy 7 (8?) or older with backlit physical buttons, I recommend using another app along with this one: Galaxy Button Lights.

Been using this app for years across multiple phones and tablets, currently have a z Fold 2. Previously this app worked fine on this phone and my other devices, but for the past 6 months I'd say, it constantly looses the setting, I have to go back in and take away permission, regrant it, just to use the app again. Couple days ago I had this app suddenly pop on when I was trying to navigate, it made my screen black out, inside and outside and I had to hard boot my phone. Very scary, Uninstalled!

It is indeed the the only app I've found to dim notifications since the annoying Android 8 update. Thank you! I've found it slightly awkward to adjust to thinking that using the slider or the +5/10 button the right means to decrease brightness rather than increase it. The previous apps I've used have it the relationship reversed. Also "shake to turn off brightness" option seems overly sensitive even when turned all the way to extreme. Other than those small issues, it does exactly what I need.

Notice: I enjoy this app I had Darker for a very long time, but it doesn't get rid of the light from the notification bar and it would hurt my eyes and head so bad at night. That's why I finally decided to switch. This gets plenty dark and does dim the whole screen. Update: App works great 90-95% of the time. It does this weird thing, though, where it kicks off and on, then stops working. It makes me go to settings to allow it to work, but then won't work. Otherwise great.

Finally a dimmer that actually does what it says! When the screen dims, its all dim, you can swipe down your notification bar and not be blinded! Blends in with the quick settings tiles so it's there when you need it but not obvious and out of place or crowding your notifications bar when not it use. Easy to dim up or down without switching apps. If you want to dim your screen, including notifications bar, without hassle, extra unless setting or crowding your screen this is perfect.

Exactly what I needed. With my colorblindness a blue light filter that my phone comes with doesn't actually help because I can't see reds and yellows very well. This lets you choose a color and an opacity to overlay on everything (I went with black at 50/50) and I can even set a timer! For it to turn on and off automatically. It will also turn off if I raise my phone brightness above about 15% and turn on if I turn my brightness to 0. It has been amazing. I love it.

Works perfectly! Not much else to say. Does exactly what it promises with great integration into other apps and notifications. Absolutely recommend. Edit: reduced from 5 to 3 stars. In the last few months, as other reviews mention, the app has started malfunctioning. It only works if you manually reset the permissions every time you use it. Very annoying, will be switching to a different app until the issue is resolved.

It's taken a bit to get the hang of it but it works well in combination with the built-in screen dimmer. I'd love a sliding side control, but access via the accessibility isn't too bad. And going in to the app itself to adjust opaque settings is okay too. It's stays over other apps and that's the main thing!!!

2-14-24 Update. The app frequently stops working at night. I have to manually turn it on. As a result, I dropped it from 4 stars to two. Original review id below. Great app. It really protects my eyes at night. I have set to shade the brightness at night so that turning on my phone in rhe darkness doesn't hurt. On the other hand, it occasionally stops working. I have to reboot to get it running again. Javing to reboot is annoying.

10/10 rating. This app is really useful because even with my Samsung on its lowest brightness, it can be used as a flashlight. There's practically no ads ever too, only in the app. It also has a little widget you can get, and it's super helpful. The automatic timer for it's turn on is helpful also because too many a night I've blinded myself trying to know the time. Out of every app I have ever downloaded, this is the only one I've recommended to others!
