It's a pretty good app for getting places and using the various metro services. THE WORST THING IS THE AUTO RELOAD; IT RELOADS 3 DAYS PRIOR TO EXPIRATION FOR A WEEKLY PASS! Definitely some bull for a weeklong visit and getting charged twice. Be sure to turn off auto renewal NOT JUST removing the payment method (do that too). Also, the preload some dollar value is glitchy and double charged. So, besides payment terms and policies that ruin it's value, it's great: Time updates, good GPS, search

When I try to add my credit card after signing in, it doesn't let me put in any month for the Good Thru date other than October. Like October is the default month, and if you try and enter any month other than October in that field, it just reverts to October. Because of this, I can't enter my credit card. Also, I tried to get around this by using the card scanning feature, but that didn't work either. This app is useless.

The ability to see balances and linked cards is nice -- but the app is unusable. It restarts and flashes every time I unlock my phone, even after reinstalling. If the issue is fixed, I would happily use the app. EDIT: the dev team responded that it could be a nearby contactless card; I do keep my cards near my phone. However, no other app that uses the NFC chip has this behavior, meaning it is a bug with this app, and it should be fixed to behave like Google Pay.

Very confusing and hard to navigate to what you need without checking every menu. I lost my plastic card and was told by a rep I should have canceled it immediately if I wanted to transfer all my funds on the card, however no such option exists on the app as far as I'm aware and their website also says only to call and email. I've lost $10 simply because my card was stolen and I couldn't report it via my phone at the time. Terrible app.

This app opens on my phone literally over 200 times a day I've disabled permissions and notifications, restarted my phone, did everything I could but it is extremely annoying to have your phone vibrate and the screen flash OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER. Definitely bugs that need fixing that I have been dealing with for way too long. Stick with the cards folks it will save you time and stress.

This is a disappointing app. The UI is glitchy. Some text boxes only work if text is being added at the end, and attempts to add text before previously typed characters results in gibberish. While trying to add my credit card information, the drop-down list of expiration months entered 07 (for July, the month it is now) no matter what month I selected. The expiration year works fine, but since my card doesn't expire in July still haven't figured out how to pay.

DO NOT INSTALL !!! Believe me, after spending 10 minutes filling out invasive forms, adding your credit card, trying to figure out how to credit your account, .... you'll wish you'd just went to the vending machine and got the 2$ plastic card. The user experience is terrible, the subscription process is terrible. Probably the worst app out there, even worse than the NJ transit app. I wish I had the option to give zero stars.

Deplorable app! The original cards are so much easier to use! Everytime you want to enter or exit a station, you have to stand at the turnstyle, log into the app before you can swipe! So much easier to pull a card out of your pocket, then swipe. I don't know what goes on between Google pay and this app, but it keeps loosing my credit card info. I got stuck inside a station and could not exit. The station attendants are no help either.

Relatively terrible. It's complicated and not at all intuitive to use. For example, if you buy a smart trip metro card you have to use it before adding it to the app or and adding value to it through the app. This little tidbit is not actually mentioned in the app setup and I had to call the helpline to figure it out. I was in London a few months ago and used their metro (tube) extensively. All I had to do was wave my phone (Gpay) over the turnstile sensor. Nothing to download or set up.

I don't live in the area, and installed for an upcoming trip. When searching for how to go places, the text box overlays the status bar, and the status bar expands over the app when trying to select the text box. The search function does not seem to be able to find addresses not associated with a bus stop or station. Google maps works better if the timetables are correct.

Works great when it does. But multiple times when I have internet connection and plenty of balance, it does not go through the reader, and just says try again on the reader. It wastes time and I miss my metro because of it. If you are going to permanently disable the card, then the app/reader cannot be bugging out like this. At the very least should allow access on the plastic card and the app, especially if you still have bugs to work out and you advertise this as an alternative. Disappointed.

This app worked fine until I got a new phone. Now the card I linked for using the tap feature won't work because apparently you can only use the device it was originally. You'd think the geniuses who wrote this app would anticipate people getting new phones. For that reason I can't give it a very high rating as changing phones is a common enough event that you shouldn't have to discover your app no longer works at the point of payment.

Have a backup because the app sometimes won't even work. And for some reason you can't even load money onto the card, I have tried to do it via the app, the online portal. It seems like there are some issues with their "digital card". Lol I I tried reloading again. And the transaction has been pending for over a week. The last one seemed to have at least not gone through since my credit card had no record of it after it showed as pending. DO NOT RELY on this when you are running LATE.

Utterly unusable. When trying to add a credit card, the expiration date input resets back to the current month or year. On trying to add passes/value, the app throws an error saying "the product catalogue cannot be loaded". When it does load, it says the transaction was successful then immediately emails me saying the transaction failed. Once a user switches devices, it is almost impossible to transfer the card over. How this app passed QA is beyond me.

The"Smart" is pretty stupid. I added money to the app so I can take the metro. No problem. Funds were low, so I added money. I get a confirmation from the app that the transaction went through. I get another confirmation from g-pay. I can see the transaction in the history. Then I get an email from the transit authority saying that the transaction was cancelled. The balance is never updated but I'm still show the transaction in my g pay. This had happened twice, also to my wife.

I didn't want to believe the reviews, but this app truly is terrible. The scan card feature when paying does not work and the expiration date drop box kept defaulting to September and wouldn't let me select another date, so I couldn't even pay online and had to go in person which is super inconvenient! I didn't ever have any problems with Philly's transit app when I lived there for 6 years. If they can do it, why not DC??

I wouldn't have given even 1 star. The activation link never gets sent. It's problematic that the app asks for so much information and does nothing after that. I checked all folders -inbox spam, unwanted, etc It's a data collection tool. It's a horrible app and shouldn't be advertised in the DC metro stations. I have stuck to my 6 year old smartrip metro card. I will remove the app but my personal info has been taken from me.

Edit: I appreciate the quick response. Yes your suggestion works, but remains unintuitive. Typing in Rockville needs to provide anything and everything with Rockville in its name, especially in an app dedicated to the Metro! Searching for Bethesda lists every bus and Metro station with Bethesda in its name, why not Rockville? OP: Stations not showing up in searches (Rockville to name one), app acts like they don't exist. How are we supposed to plan and save favorites if they can't find them?

While not fully intuitive (and having to go through the terms and conditions a few times was annoying) I was able to configure my existing metro card and transfer it to my Google wallet in less than 10 minutes from start to finish. As that will be my primary way to access it moving forward, that's all I needed this app to do.

A serviceable app with strange inconsistencies. The setup does take an unusual amount of time (and information), and I'm pretty sure there is a mismatch between the create-account password and the actual password requirmenys (i.e. USE TWO NUMBERS IN THE PW OR YOU'LL HAVE TO RESET IT). Once you're past that it is straightforward though, more or less. I wish there wasn't a card setup fee - makes the digital app kinda pointless when you need to "buy a card" anyway.
