More About SmoothTrack: Head Tracker

SUPPORTS ANY DEVICE WHICH CAN INSTALL GOOGLE AR SERVICES.
SmoothTrack provides 3D head tracking for intuitively controlling your sim game's camera, using the AR capabilities of your device. Any game that supports TrackIR works with SmoothTrack!

----
"The best new controller on the market...if you're flying a plane on PC, you need to check it out." - Polygon
----

It's a near magical experience to seamlessly slightly move your head and have your game perspective immediately play along (the movements in the game are magnified so that you only have to make slight movements of your head to control the camera).

- Simply lean forward to get a closer look at your Flight Simulator cockpit!
- Look a bit up to see the overhead panel of your A320!
- Simply shift your head a bit to the right to see the direction of the space station you're approaching in Elite: Dangerous!
- Look a bit left before a hard left turn in Euro Truck Simulator 2!

No headset or extra equipment of any kind is required! Simply set up your device so that it can see your face. Using simple camera gestures, you can shift your perspective in-game.

Your head movements are slightly exaggerated which enables you to look out of a cockpit side window with just a slight movement of your head to the left.

Includes a dark mode to save your battery and your OLED screen, as well as a bright mode for playing in a dark room!

Any game that supports the FreeTrack or TrackIR protocol will work with this, including:

- Microsoft Flight Simulator
- Microsoft FSX
- Elite: Dangerous
- IL2: Sturmovik
- Euro Truck Simulator 2
- Kerbal Space Program
- ...and many, many others!

Discord and Email support is provided if there are any issues (or if you have any ideas for new features!).

EDITED REVIEW: Gave it 1 star at first because after having trouble with my setup not working correctly there was no answer to my mail at first, which would be unexcusable. But they did answer after 4 weeks and although it still doesn't work for me for some reason at least their support does work despite obviously being a very small team. It seems to work for most people and is a bit cheaper than a webcam. You shouldn't compare the price to IR tracking though, different technology!

Following the instructions as described has given very good results for head tracking, and using the phone to track is a much better solution than what I used before (Iriun webcam and AiTrack, for those curious). It's much more stable and customizable. Love it, well worth the price. The only thing keeping it from being 5 stars at the moment is the absence of any option to use the back camera, which would have likely improved the accuracy and definitely would have improved the polling framerate.

First app I've ever bought on Android, bought it as a temporary alternative to trackir because it's simply not available here. Whilst there is a little bit of setup that means you need to know your way around your PC and a little bit of post installation tweaking, dcs picked it up immediately. Tbh it works pretty well without changing any curves but I'd recommend you do. I wouldn't suggest this as a long term solution but if you're saving up or waiting on RMA it's 100% worth the full price 5*

No complaints here. It did its job really well and I was impressed by the tracking taking into account the limitations of such tech - your own phone's front camera. I had some troubles playing in a dark room driving at night in game, had to turn on a light in my room cause tracking was janky but then I saw the "light up my screen button" in the app, my phone's screen turned bright white and I could turn off my light in the room and continue playing in the dark. So yeah, pretty impressive!

Great app. I started my head tracking journey with Opentrack, a face detection software and a PS3 eyecam. It was horrible. So I thought I'd give SmoothTrack a try, 10 bucks won't hurt me. Great decision! It turns so smooth and I can look anywhere. The input lag in the game was a bit high but that was probably due to my wifi connection so I'll have to try it with USB. Keep up the good work!

very easy to set up and works well with one exception. when I turn my head (not too drastically) to look behind me in dcs it sometimes interprets it as me rolling my head and and I can't really look up or down either. I believe this is because my phone is at the base of my monitor and I am going to try moutning it to the top of the monitor next.

Saw this on Reddit and finally had some time to give it a go. I haven't fine tuned the sensitivity but I'm blown away this was done so well. If the camera can expose for your face you're pretty much in business cus I was using this in a slightly under lit corner of my room (basically the TV was illuminating me). This might stave off buying an VR headset until next gens are fleshed out. Great job! I've already demo'd it with some friends via video chat and they're amazed haha

App is not nearly as accurate on Android (Samsung Galaxy S20) as it is on iPhone (15 Pro). It would not register with me looking to the right (mirroring turned on) as well as it does to the left of the screen. It also would get stuck, stuttering in one spot and would have to close and restart the app. Unusable. However it works flawlessly on iPhone. Only using it on my Android because my iPhone is where I get notifications so I wanted to use the backup as a stationary head tracker.

I get a very small lag delay when moving my head around and the camera moving. There is a float sensation that makes me overshoot what I want to look at. Even playing around with the sliders, OpenTrack curves, sensitivity, deadzones, smoothing I just can't get it to feel right. The USB mode, which the setup feels super sketchy to run by the way, didn't make much of a difference. It works, I guess, but OpenTrack is free and had the same feeling I got with SmoothTrack so no gain for me.

Just purchased this little gem of an app. I had it up and running in about 5 minutes after downloading the Opentrack software. Configuration was a breeze and briefly tested it in MSFS2020 for about ten minutes. It's going to take some getting used to, but wow, what an amazing add-on that greatly increases the realism to the sim. Thank you for your hard work on this app. Also, the lag is almost non existent for me, maybe a couple of milliseconds or so, even over wifi!

Works great right "out-of-the-box." I was able to test SmoothTrack with both X-Plane 11 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, and it's true to its name; the tracking is incredibly smooth. I also own ViewTracker, and even after tinkering with those settings dozens of times, this app works far better and requires almost zero configuration. I whole-heartedly recommend SmoothTrack to anyone interested in flight sims, or other games and simulators that support TrackIR. Very well done.

Excellent software/math, but a better interface (like the one in the iOS version) and also a usb mode to connected it to the pc, are needed. The last one is quite challenging technically but the first one is needed. However I am staying with this app for the long run so that is why I gave it 5 stars, when in reality it should be 3.5 for the amount paid. The only advice as a fellow developer is to never push a broken update or not one tested fully, so I am here for any beta testing if needed.

I am a trackIR user and though trackir has great tracking, I was interested in this solution given ease of use. With trackir, I have to attach the ir module to my headset, plus a 5v rechargeable battery. Its weight and wires on my headset that becomes uncomfortable after a while. Plus trackir does not work in daylight. This solution thus far has worked great without the hassle of wires, battery, and sensor all velcro strapped to my headset. Simply place my phone in front of me and go!

This would be a perfect app if I could access a settings menu for the actual camera itself, and an option for using the superior 60fps rear camera. I'd just point it at a mirror and invert the affected axes so I can still look at my phone screen. I hope John considers this as the delay would be much less noticeable. The app itself is awesome. I love the ability to adjust each axes' sensitivity on the fly within the app. It tracks phenomenally. It has never lost my face once.

Awesome addition to MSFS2020! Super easy to get set up, just follow the instructions in the app. Got it setup and working in less than 10 minutes. Works amazing with multiple displays to help get that full "360" veiw with only a few displays. Adds a feature that would normally cost hundreds to get at a fraction of the cost. 10/10 highly recommend.

I've been using this in Flight Simulator and it's very impressive. Easy to set up and a great flying experience, especially VFR. As well as binding a key to centering, I'd suggest binding a key to "toggle" in OpenTrack to turn on and off head tracking. It's great on take off and landing but when I'm flying along I like to use the mouse to scroll. Amazing piece of kit - this is complicated technology and it's bundled in a really usable way.

Best $5 I've spent in awhile! This is a really good head tracking app thats super cheap! I thought maybe this app wouldnt do that well with tracking your head, but it proved me wrong! The only thing I could see people complaining about is the difficulty of setup, and maybe even with what little latency there is. I dont notice the latency while playing games and the setup was pretty easy to me. Thank you for this wonderful app!

This is amazing. I've used it for 3 test landings after a very simple install and its fantastic. Cant wait to try it out in other games too. If my long term experience matches first impression then this is the best $10 I've spent, in a long line of computer equipment. Thanks! I hope you make millions off this app! I eas irritated at first to miss Beta at $5 but now, I'd have probably paid $20! Not suggesting you raise the price, just letting people know its worth every penny.

Fantastic app. I just got into DCS and this is a way more cost friendly option than a TrackIR setup. I'd prefer if you could have the screen off when using the app to save the battery and screen life. I'd also like to see the app have the ability to Bluetooth or USB tethering to connect to my computer. Right now it only supports connection through a Wi-Fi port, which for me has been spotty at times. The tracking with this app is exceptional though, and way more economical than TrackIR.

There needs to be a way to switch the camera, as it defaults to the one that uses records in lower quality for me, which in turn affects the quality of the head tracking. It runs well otherwise, but the quality is hard to judge without being able to access the best camera. I give it 4 because it does offer a great work around to more expensive options, but it really is a bit disappointing that a simple camera swap options is not available on a paid app.
