App stability appears to be improving, I've started getting notifications again, as well as being able to upload photos to my friends. There are still issues that if you tap on your notification to open the chat to reply, the reply will not go through, and the app does occasionally hang up and requires a soft restart in order to update conversations, but overall it's going back in the right direction.

As it stands, this app barely completes the single task it is meant to accomplish. It will work for a few minutes, then locks up. Usually get so frustrated I just close the app and use my keyboard to chat with friends. Splitting the apps up seems to be a misstep, as the chat functionality features in the old combined app were much more stable. I appreciate the services provided by Valve, but this falls short of potential.

Slow, clunky, constantly resending links to people I sent hours ago when I open the app (which I have to do often to refresh the chat so I can see the new messages I got a notifications for but arent there.) It has all the features I wanted added to the Steam app but it just feels so bad to use. Edit 2/9/23: for weeks so the App constantly slows to a crawl before crashing as I type. Sometimes it happens with multiple sentences, sometimes it happens with a couple words. Not unusable, but close.

If it isn't broke, fix it until it is. That's the new trend today. Valve is no exception. They had an app that worked just fine. And they replaced it with this train wreck. The list of things that work is much shorter than the list of things that don't. Your friend list shows up. You can kinda access links. Text works ok, though even that will freeze after a minute or 2 and the app will have to reboot. Pretty much nothing else works. Whoever thought this was ready to publish must have been drunk

Forced to use this app after the updated main app. Chat messages don't load half the time (see the notification of a message, open it, and doesn't have the message in the chat itself unless I force close the app and reopen it). Great that you can send pictures with this app compared to the previous built in steam app, except it doesn't work - select the image, shows the image, send the message annnnnd nothing happens - no error message just nothing. Feels like a step backwards.

Come on, Steam. What were you guys thinking? The app feels horrible and less fleshed out then the previous chat system, and this app is meant to replace chat in the base Steam app. Most of the time I load the app, it takes far longer than it ever should to load up chat. (2-3 minutes, and yes, that's bad) Otherwise (most of the time) I simply receive and error when loading the app. I get it's a new system, but it's off to a terrible start.

This app is damn near unusable. Constantly freezing while typing, filling in characters extremely slowly, buggy as all hell. A lot of features don't work, and it doesn't load in your existing conversations. Just awful. On top of all of this, the app was last updated in October of last year... Very apparent that they have no intention to clean this app up. Valve really dropped the ball on this one.

I hate being redirected to the browser when I use the steam app and it lacks functionality for a certain task I wish to complete....now they're making different applications for different functions and that's not any better. The app was much better before they started trying to modernize things. It was one application for everything and it actually functioned. Whoever they hired for this development is a joke.

Wish it worked. After almost two hours of trying to log in I was finally able but then it does not display any of my message history and showed me only 13/69 of my friends. This did not need to be a separate app from the main Steam app for 99% of users but if it is going to be having it work at the most fundamental levels would be nice.

I no longer receive chat notifications, it crashes often while opening a chat, it gives me an error every time when I try to upload a picture on my Motorola Razr+, it doesn't work on the outside screen on my Razr+...overall this app is in need of an overhaul. It serves it's purpose for replying to friends but only when it wants to work. Oh oh, also it sometimes will send age old messages to friends...

Barely functional at all. You need to continually tap sign in until you can break past the failed to connect to steam error. Once there you can tap on a gc and see everything just fine but if it has multiple channels u can't switch because none of the buttons even work, not even the back button built into the phone. That isn't to say it is entirely dysfunctional since you can still scroll through chat, it's just everything else that doesn't do anything.

Still broken trash and I often opt for the browser version because it's so trash. The latest issues are it sends messages I sent hours ago. Original Review: Doesn't let me send image messages, I frequently have to resend text messages also. If I send multiple messages in a row it slows down really badly when the messages get larger and it requires me go to the home screen tab to another app, then back to steam to resume using the keyboard to finish typing the message. No other app does this.

I don't know what happened, but for the past couple weeks, the app just freezes and crashes. It could be after one message or before you even get to open the chat screen. Don't get this app. It is terrible. Maybe try carrier pigeon, or two cups on a string instead. Smoke snigals would be a faster, more reliable way to chat with your steam friends.

At best can be used for simple communication. Very buggy. Can only use for a few minutes at a time before it freezes and has to be restarted. Cannot open, swipe out, and then return to the app as it fails to load. Must swipe up to close/restart app. Everytime I attempt to attach file or photograph I receive an error. I double checked and the app has permissions to access camera and photos. This has been going on for some time, surprised it hasn't been fixed.

It's the most broken app I've ever used. It freezes up every message or 2 and becomes completely unresponsive. Also stops working if you minimize the app and bring back up. or turn your phone screen off and back on. the old all in one app worked fine, Steam has not fixed this issue in over a year. im assuming they are trying to kll the chat function on phones.

Please explain why there needs to be a separate app for this? On top of that, it's buggy, doesn't display my whole friend list (tiny as it is), sometimes can't log me in unless I restart multiple times, messages disappear after a while, and for some reason they made it look like discord. Extremely annoyed. Edit, nearly a year later, still buggy trash.

Still a complete buggy mess that it was when it released but it's even worse now. For starters, their very own sticker system doesn't work - stickers get stuck on the first frame. GIF's don't animate like they use to years ago. Videos won't play sound and are super zoomed in, often crashes when you scroll past them. Can only upload your last 5 images from camera and screenshots, any others give an error. Crashes and much more. How is it that Valve are incapable of making a functional chat app?
