Horrible experience with this app. I used it back in 2017 when you still had the credit system and it was only about 3 to 4 dollars for a lead. Even if it did not pan out you only lost the 3 to 4 dollars. Now? 20 to 50$! What's worse is now their is no limit to how many contractors can be reached out to by the consumers and the app actively encourages it! So you can wake up one day and see you have a lovely new targeted lead that auto billed you for 20 bucks. Along with 9 others!

Was skeptical at 1st having to pay to reach clients before making money but compared it to paying for ads. 1st few months were fine and reasonable the amount I was spending vs business with clients. Then, I was spending $20, $30 for "potential customers" who would never reply or disappear after a few messages. And when I would try to get a refund of charges (which is just a credit so they still have your $$) told to wait, then became too late to get a refund. Lost 50% of earnings to waste time.

Stay away, I was a pro way back in the day when it was just one app and they used the credit system. Then it was good, credits costed $2-3, had a limit on pros betting on one lead, only paid if you got the job and more importantly leads were REAL. After using them for over a couple of years prices surged by a lot, got charged just for betting, then I started getting a lot of unresponsive "leads" that seem to follow the same template, all while thumbtack was conveniently getting my credits.

I've used this app/service with VERY limited success. Since I've started using thumbtack they've adjusted their pricing for leads numerous times. After their last adjustment, the price per lead became ABSURD. That and with Covid-19, I decided to turn off all targeting. A few weeks later I got charged and they will not refund the money, only issue a credit. Which almost guarantees I will have to spend more money to deplete the credit on my account. This whole service is a money grab.

Update: The new quote structure is pretty ridiculous (I feel more so for a teacher compared to home improvement contractors, etc). For example, I contacted a student looking for ESL lessons. Due to English challenges in writing their request, it turned out that what they were actually looking for was something different. But I had to pay $18 to find that out. So, no match and I'm out the money. I'm really reluctant to contact students unless I feel like they're a perfect match. Overall, I've spent less money with the new system because I'm not willing to take the risk. Another example: I also teach test prep, but only English/reading/writing. Under the old system, I didn't mind throwing out a couple dollars to contact a student to see if they would like to have 2 tutors for test prep, one for English, one for math. Sometimes students go for this arrangement and it was worth the "gamble". Now, I don't bother contacting students who are looking for all subjects on test prep (which is nearly everyone). It's not worth the money. Overall, I don't think the old system was perfect, but the new system just doesn't work for the idiosyncrasies that teachers have to deal with. There should be a better way. Personally, I'd rather pay $50 upon actually getting hired (after communicating with the student and ironing out what they're really looking for). That would make it worth the money, hands down. I don't know how this would work logistically... But right now, I'm not getting jobs and you're not getting money. :/ So, so disappointed.

What a scam. Been a top pro for over two years. With the addition of instant booking, you're forced to pay a MUCH higher lead fee and you have no pre communication with the customer about the job. For example, I've had two instant bookings cancel today costing over $150 and there is LITERALLY nothing I can do about it as I wasn't even able to talk with the customer due to this asinine booking they have implemented.

This app WAS great for companies looking for gigs. For a small fee to connect with potential customers, you could get specific and relevant client requests, and were able to use the app as a safe mediator between the client and worker. Unfortunately, they changed the way the whole system works, in an apparent attempt to make more money. It now costs small-time pros too much to quote a job, and potential customers only seem to send generic requests anymore. Hope they can get things figured out...

They sell the leads but if there is any problem with the customer they immediately deactivate account till Pro refund the amount. Sometimes customers request refund without showing any reason and say it did not work but they dont care about the situation. They earn money from the Pro but never support them. This is very bad. I had few experiences like this but last time I decided to deactivate my account for this reason!

A whole lot of paying for leads. And then as soon as they take your money, and the lead goes cold. You never get a chance to give estimate. I'm just paying for random phone numbers, some of which seem to be disconnected. But there are a few (one time) that it paid off, and I am grateful for that one connection. And seems to be better than Angie's list

I can't say how utterly disappointed I am with the thumbtag platform. To no avail, have I reached out to customer service several times. They seem to not understand that mountains exist. It's a lot like uber doesn't understand that driving uphill cost money. They continue to charge my credit card when I can not facilitate events. So annoying won't help me change. My preferences continue to charge by credit card. I can't say very nice things about thumbtack.. A I is not customer service.

Pretty sure they use bots to sell you "leads" and even if you complain about it, they rarely reimburse you. Also, I had a customer insist on paying through the app, then after I left they started arguing about the price and refused to pay. Thumbtack didn't charge their card on file and was essentially useless. Pretty much told me to go through my own legal channels if I wanted the customer to pay. This app is alright for some extra jobs, but most of the time it feels like a scam.

In the beginning, it was a fairly cost-effective way to market. Customer service has never been great, but all in all, it was worth using. Then came the automatic booking and the extreme price increase. When I was charged 250% for a " tire kicker" lead, that was pre scheduled at a time that didn't work for me; I was out. According to many of the recent reviews I'm reading, it appears it's not just me. If they go back to the way it was, and GET RID of the pre booking...we'll see.

I wish I could leave 0 Stars.. I was very disappointed in my experience on this app. They don't care if you're being charged ridiculously for nothing. AS A PRO: I experienced over charging on several occasions, missed leads due to technical issues on the app, was matched to over 50 leads in the time I deactivated my account and put my business on pause (all the while still being charged), I reached out each time and never received feedback. They charge you for each lead, no matter what.

They give you leads that tend to not hire you. And it could range from $10 to almost $50. And the clients refuse to agree to price that you're charging them. It gets to be annoying losing more money than gaining it. And instabook is a rip off, I had to cut off services because of it, being charged for it and the client either cancels or they're way out of your coverage area. Thumbtack are literally hurting small businesses.

This app is a scam. I signed up and put my services within a selected area, but I kept getting on site offers from all over the country and they where charging me for it! I contacted support for a refund stating the Jobs are way too far (I am talking 10+ hour drives one way) and was denied. I checked my location and job setting and all where correct. I submitted a second request and they denied me again. I don't know how they can get away with this nonsense. I highly recommend not signing up.

Great app at first but they have automated the customer service and made it difficult to speak to a real person. Also they implemented a booking system which was optional at first but now it's forced. Some leads cost over $100 and that's just to talk to the client. Disappointed they used to be my favorite lead service.

I've had a good run with the app for a year. Thankful for the work but lately I've been receiving alot of ghost clients. I love this app I really do but if I can't get a refund for a lead that never responds n follow the app protocols. It annoys me especially when they charge you for a lead. Normally 30 bucks. No big deal. But what pisses me off is that same lead goes exactly for 10-13 bucks on the roster.

The fees are too high. They automatically charge you for ALL of the leads that match your preferences, which might be an issue if for whatever reason you can't do all of them, OR if someone out-bids you, OR if a customer simply decides to cancel their party or not book the same type of vendor. And they do not send every message to the customers. That being said, I have booked a lot of gigs through this app, but I just know that it should be four times that based on what I'm charged. Don't use!!

Thumbtack used to be good for occasional work but then some "genius" thought it would be a good idea to push "instant booking" on everyone. Now it's just another issue as a small business owner I have to look out for. I don't need instant booking. I already have a fully featured website that can handle appointment booking. There's no easy way to turn it off so potential customers schedule thinking they have an appointment when they don't.

Many usability issues. Some simple such as inability to highlight and copy text in chats, including client addresses. Some are very serious such as charging $30+ for client leads on days I have marked my business as "closed", for same-day work when I have settings for 1 day minimum lead time or charging for a lead when a collects hasn't even responded or seen my messages. After contacting customer service I was told they didn't qualify for refund. $100s of dollars wasted. Be careful!
