The app overall is good, but not great. There needs to be two things changed. 1/ Have a local login option please!! 2/ when i go look at a camera, it should not steal the sound of the device. If I have music playing in another app, leave that playing unless I say otherwise. Especially when the video is muted!! This means I cannot have the video on a tablet and use that same tablet to play music too. Why limit a device that way?

I've had the app for a couple years, so it's become clear that regardless of how good the hardware is, the Unifi Protect app is not intended for home users, and that's unlikely to change. It still can't function as a basic security system that can be simply armed when the house is empty, and geofencing is a joke because it's not accurate enough and will set off false alerts, plus they rub it in by asking me to select my primary device literally every time I open the app.

This app is great; however, I am having problems with the most recent update. All the snapshots of recent motion/vehicle/person detections are now zoomed in so much that I cannot tell what specific activity was captured without playing the actual video. This only occurs on the Android phone app, not on my computer. The latest update has fixed the zoom issue. The app works very well now.

App is so slow to load, the doorbell intercom is practically useless. Certain functions are difficult to locate in a pretty poor UI. Notifications have next to no useful customization, and tend to spam you with 2-4 notifications per event. It feels like an early beta product in need of further development...and checking the date it was last updated, perhaps abandoned?! Over a year since the last update? In this state? Yikes.

When it works, it works great. The problem is that it fails to launch far more often than it is successful with notifications. Have to close the app and try again like 75% of the time. Also, after the most recent update, I can't even seem to log in anymore. Ubiquiti desperately needs serious stability improvements. A camera system you can't access on demand is pretty useless. They can't expect people to purchase their expensive cameras if their software that they are locked to doesn't function.

App has become unusable. Cameras don't load and location based alerts don't work. Seems to be a common theme. Very disappointed about the extremely low level of response to these issues people are having. Update: as a last ditch effort I uninstalled and reinstalled. Things for the most part seem to working but the location alerts are still non-functional.

Not very dependable... have had several problems with it over the three years since installation. When it works, it's great; when it doesn't work, it's very very frustrating... mostly because the customer support/tech support is absolutely worthless. Last problem, I had to finally go to a private vendor (after REPEATED requests for help from Tech Support) for the fix (at significant $$$).

Every revision in the last 6 months seems to make it worse. 1.) Why is the speaker on now whenever I go to a camera? It use to be muted by default and now it keeps turning on whenever I open the app. At least give the option in preferences. 2.) Double-tapping the camera needs to go back to full screen again. Double-tap to zoom makes no sense when we can pinch zoom. 3.) We really need the ability to direct connect on our own so we can use secure VPN connections. This is a necessity!

Love the Unifi hardware. The problem I am having is that when I get an alert for motion detection, the camera feed doesn't load reliably. Several times, I have to completely close the app, and restart it in order to view the camera feed. Please fix these issues on the Android app!!! Also, there is no option to select Smart Detection alerts in the app.

v1.2.6: Inability to reconnect without force stop resolved. Works very nicely when it works. Time-based motion alerts are sorely missed, though clearly in development. Force quits seem to be required after almost every connection in order to reconnect to the NVR. General crashiness has also been observed. (Android 8.1 on LG) This app is clearly very young, and needs to get it's strength up before it ought to be out here in the wild. It's just a baby, the poor thing.

It works well except for one crucial capability. The geolocation based notifications don't appear to work at all. I've had an S20 and a Pixel 7. Didn't work on either one. This is very annoying when you are home and getting notification spammed. A potentially easy work-around could be to only send notifications when not connected to a specific SSID.

Garbage application. You are required to have your NVR connected to Ubiquiti servers to use the app outside your home network. You can't port forward anymore. Additionally, playing back recorded motion events is a complete roulette. Sometimes you can, sometimes you can't. Usually if you click on a recording it just buffers for a few seconds and then skips back to a live view. Try to scroll down through the recording list? Nope, as soon as your finger leaves the screen it jumps back to the top.

I bought $10k+ worth of UniFi gear at 3 houses: doorbells, cameras, switches, etc. My biggest pet peeve in the whole system, is that when someone rings the doorbell, the app doesn't even indicate WHICH house is ringing. I don't want to pick up doorbell rings at one of my houses (because it's an Airbnb). The app just pops up a screen with the green/red buttons to accept/decline the call. I'm forced to pick up, to see the video feed, then quickly hang up if it's the house I wanted to ignore...

Edit - App was updated with an Android patch mid-May and it now works flawlessly. Review raised to 5 stars. The app even provides more robust camera management than the web gui does, it is all you need to manage your security and you can do it all remotely! It works for live viewing but the app will not save clips or snapshots to Android 10 devices. The snapshot just fails without even a notice and the clip fails and tells you it failed download. This means if you actually want to use your footage, you need access to the local cloudkey, you can't do it through this app.

I want to rate this app 5 stars because the streamlined experience of interacting with my Unifi Protect devices is so nice. However, it arbitrarily closes out of the camera view while I'm scrolling events. When that happens, I see the little toast indication that it's connecting, so I'm not sure if it's a problem with the app, the fully-Unifi network, or what. It's annoying, but I've been able to get right back to what I was doing after the abrupt interruption.

App suddenly stopped being able to detect local NVR on same wifi (diffrent subnet/vlan), but I still get doorbell alerts. The whole point of a self hosted system is so I can keep it as locked down as possible. But i still need to use a stupid cloud account, and open it up to far too much of the internet, just to use on my local network. ADD DIRECT IP CONNECTION. Its not hard to program. A doorbell notification does not need any of my image data sent to the cloud.

Just got my cameras installed and have been using the app for a few days. So far so good. Runs smooth, the features are great, no garbage ads to deal with. One of the biggest downfalls of any electronic device, like a security camera, is that even though they have impressive specs & often make "top 10" lists by every youtuber/security expert & their mother, the reality is that the product itself is actually sub-par build quality, not meant to last very long, and garbage software. But NOT UniFi!

After the last update the app stopped being able to highlight motion detection events. Used to work, still works in desktop/Web app. Now just a blank timeline. The app is also unstable. Sometimes it just won't be able to connect to replay video and you get the dreaded "blinking dots" in the corner. Very expensive hardware for mediocre - at best - software.

So far I haven't had any real problems with the app. Except for a period of time when I first setup a geofence, and it didn't detect I was in the geofence for a few hours. The only other issue is detection notifications, I haven't replaced my outside cameras with unifi ones yet. I plan to in the future. But I need a way to toggle the notifications off when I'm working outside in the yard or walking my dogs. Like a notification toggle widget for each camera would be great.

Doorbell camera stutters a lot when using audio. When answering I cannot find the option to turn volume on to hear people. I have factory reset my phone and the UDM SE with only marginal improvements and I've tried every diagnostic bit of advice on the Internet. I have a Blink camera system and audio has always worked well on my phone with it. I will reach out to support and update if these get resolved.
