Grateful to finally get local news on the app! Capital weather gang's weather reports are still not there, and the outdated reports don't let you link to the main stream. WP isn't (and won't be) my only news source, so a customizable home screen would help me get to news in the sequence I want without so much hassle or reverting to the website (often current weather, local news, then headline news).

I loved this app until recently. A few days ago, it stopped updating. I would still get news alert notifications, but if I tapped on them to read the story, the app would open and then say the story could not be retrieved. I tried force stop, and then uninstalling and reinstalling the app. That worked as far as getting new stories to show up. But if I open a story and try to scroll down to actually read it, the app shuts down.

I like the WP, don't get me wrong. But what I HATE about the app, is how the pages can side sideways into a completely different story. Unless I'm real careful, that's what happens. I sent a note with video to the WP support and they suggested I reinstall the app. Of course that made no difference. So for technical reasons I'm giving up my subscription. Too bad but I can't be bothered with a bad app.

I really like this app. However, looking at article images is a nightmare. I'm glad you have the option to expand images, but it's completely wasted since it's thumbnail quality. Can you put PNG files in that'll load in full res when you expand it? I can't even read half the graphs in articles because they're so aliased. Thanks!

A WAPO subscriber for decades, surprised at the difficulty to read a story under Sports (online) verifying the game that I'd just seen prior to its end. Allowed to see the headline, click on the link. Then required to supply credentials that were rejected. Entered new data for updated credentials; accepted. Taken back to page where I left off. Clicked to read and was told my credentials were not recognized. Invited to enter a new account. Still haven't been able to read the article. Frustrated.

On my Samsung smart phone, there is an annoying tendency for this app to NOT give me the story that I clicked on. Why is this? Also, when I then try to find the story, it is difficult to find. Please ask your tech folks to figure this out. I continue to subscribe to your print paper and I appreciate the quality of the Post. Just not the technical aspects of your app on my smart phone.

It's a pretty good app. However, when you scroll down on an article, the header image does a strange scaling thing. Also, when you copy text, the design is still from *checks notes* literally Android Gingerbread. This tells me the devs aren't too interested in the Android version which is disappointing.

So glad you forced me off the old app and your alternative to the card interface is the new discovery widget, which has shown the same stories for the past seven days. I've reinstalled the widget, rebooted the phone, even put it on another phone. Same 21 stories, now a week old. Some discovery. But thanks to you, I've rediscovered Flipboard. You're off my home screen, and they're on. I'll be reading a lot less WaPo thanks to that. Too bad.

New app is unusable and ugly. Ads scattered everywhere. Horizontal scrolling is impossible to control accurately. Please go back to the old app immediately; it worked perfectly. I loved the ability to quickly 'flip' through articles in the old app. Now you force us to laboriously scroll through page after page of dreck. A truly awful downgrade that you have the temerity to call an upgrade!

They wrongly say the "Discover" tab gives the same experience as the soon-to-be-defunct Select app. The Select app seemed to be curated, with top new stories appearing first. I just tried the Discover tab to read about the latest important news about Ukraine, and was appalled to see the second story was about a chicken sandwich. Don't be fooled, this is cost-cutting, algorithm-driven "curation". I now see no reason to keep both the NYTimes and WaPo digital subscriptions.

Somebody has put a considerable amount of thought into making this app easy to use. Even the first time, you don't have to think about it; you just read it, like the paper, but with more effective ways of finding the articles you want. My only complaint is that it's a bit too sensitive in sometimes switching to another article if you try to scroll within the one you're on, and get your touch not quite correct. Otherwise, it does what it's supposed to: lets you read the paper you subscribed to.

The consolidated version of the app (this one) is much worse in terms of reading experience than the old app. Ways it is worse include: - Giant ads (the ads went from limited to several times within every story). This is a paid app. Ads should be limited. - Poor navigation. Stories repeat in multiple parts of the app. There is also no indication from a table of contents when an article has been read. - Prefer the major updates twice a day over constant updates. Give me the digital equivalent of a morning paper where new stuff is not mixed in the with articles from the past week - Discover section useless. We don't care about the stupid tiles. We want to see articles with nice photos and easy navigation. The Discover articles are all available in other parts of the app. - Fonts and Pictures less readable in this version In short this was a step backwards. Seeing the print version is a marginal improvement, but that section could have been added to the select app along with a local sections.

You really need to change this app or I will really need to change my subscription. I loved being able to navigate the previous app because it felt like a real newspaper and allowed me to read it as I read a newspaper. I could pick a section and quickly scan it for news that was relevant to me. With the "New" app it feels like you have regressed to Web 1 and are trying to lead me around with a ring in my nose. I am both frustrated and angry. I will not use it. Give your subscribers a choice!!!

Imagine paying for a newspaper subscription, but the app won't actually hold an article open for more than 10 seconds before going back to the homepage, eventually leading to the app crashing. It's updated and all. Don't feel like I'm getting my subscription's worth. Plus, with them consistently changing who does the Seven in the morning, and always changing the music is just annoying. I come to you for news. Not different personalities in a podcast or funky transition music. I want the news.

March 2024 update Everything works fine now... thx Washington post for being responsive. Some improvements still possible because by its nature it is a lot of information on a small screen, but it remains my go-to news (From 2022) Download and installed from Google play store (so one would assume that the latest version was installed) however when tried to open and use, a forced message to get an "update" from the Play Store puts one in an endless and unsolvable loop. Still can't get the news.

Handling of App Bug Reports Incompetent and Dishonest Debug correspondence: "We are sorry for the delay and appreciate your patience. We see that your device is currently using Android 11. Our system only supports Android 12 and higher. Please update your operating system to have an optimized experience. " Quote from your app's requirements listed in Google Play, who distributes your app: "Required OS Android 5.0 and up" It seems that it is easier for you to lie about your app's bug than to fix.

Crashes chrome devices. I have contacted app support many times over 3 years, yet no solutions. I have to remove the app and restart device just to get my device to work again. Not happy paying for a subscription that I can not use. Washington Post app support just says to contact they, which I have done many times about this issue for 3 years, yet still doesn't work. All other apps work on that device. Only Washington Post does not,.

I had an online subscription to the Post for years - it's still active, but will expire in November. However, the content is interrupted by continuous ads that I must scroll past - despite the fact I'm personally paying for the content. I thought the case might be different if I got the app, but it's not. The app offers no advantage over the WP website - still bombarded by ads. A sad situation for one of the US's two newspapers of record.

The app works well overall. However, unlike the New York Times app, it does not allow highlighting of text for copying and pasting. I know you're protective of your intellectual property over there, but that really doesn't help anybody. Please correct this oversight! EDIT: Oversight corrected! Thank you very much!

The only way to read the Print Edition of the Washington Post is in the App on my cell phone. It is extremely difficult to do so given the small size of the text. From time to time, like today, the Print Edition is not available through the App because the button for it has disappeared from the menu bar. This is truly frustrating. OK after dev reply. Still need to develop a Windows and MAC OS app that will allow the Print Edition to be viewed on a laptop or desktop computer.
